Ireland has been playing a lot of cricket in recent times and they have a lot of match practice coming into this ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier being hosted in the UAE. They’re one of the favourites of the tournament and in Match 2, they face off against familiar foes Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi. Because of the tight schedule, 4 games are being hosted on Day 1 and prior to this, there’s the Singapore vs Scotland game too, played in Dubai.
Ireland are clear favourites but Hong Kong has the armoury to create an upset. It wasn’t too long ago that Ireland beat Hong Kong in a T20 pentangular series in Oman earlier this month. Head to head, the two teams have an equal record in official T20 internationals. Keep reading for our complete FanFight (Sign-up and get Rs.30 FREE) fantasy preview of the IRE vs HK game…

Numbers
- Head to head in T20Is, the teams are tied 2-2.
- In their last meeting, Ireland beat Hong Kong by 66 runs.

- Aizaz Khan in 4 T20s for Kowloon CC last month – 189 runs, 7 wickets.
Ireland
Wicket-keeper batsman Gary Wilson leads the side but in the recent T20I series in Oman, he was batting too low down and wasn’t getting decent scores, so I’ll skip this player. Instead, I’ll pick all-rounders who are always the best choices in T20s. Paul Stirling opens the batting and has experience playing leagues around the world including the T10 league here in Abu Dhabi. He also bowls once in a way; he scored 59 against Nepal earlier this month.
Another all-rounder worthy of selection to your fantasy team is Simi Singh. The 32-year old wasn’t used well and wasn’t very effective in recent games but he has potential to be better especially on these pitches that assist spin. Pick him as he won’t be picked by many. Gareth Delany is another high value pick as he has at least a wicket in each of his last 5 outings for Ireland, including 69 runs in that time with a best of 20 with the bat and 2/27 with the ball.
Hong Kong
Last month, Hong Kong captain Aizaz Khan was dismissed only twice in 4 domestic T20 games where he had a top score of 100* and a best of 3/48 with the ball, so this all-rounder can be your fantasy team captain or vice-captain. Another batting all-rounder in the squad is Kinchit Shah who has 5 wickets and 106 runs with a best of 48 in his last 5 games for Hong Kong. Pick both these players if they fit in your fantasy team budget.
There’s yet another all-rounder that you can include in your FanFight (Sign-up and get Rs.30 FREE) fantasy team and that is Waqas Barkat who has figures of 3/20 and 3/25 in his last 2 games for Hong Kong, to go with scores of 33 and 17 in those games. 17-year old Nasrulla Rana is becoming an important part of this Hong Kong line-up. While he only has 3 wickets in 3 T20Is, he recently picked 7 scalps in 4 domestic T20s for Pakistan Hong Kong last month.
