Edmonton Royals suffered a defeat in their opening game of this year’s Global T20 Canada tournament in Brampton. Now, they will play their second game of the season and will want to open up their account. However, it’s going to be tough as they play their game tonight against Brampton Wolves, a new franchise but one with plenty of firepower. See more about them here.
The Wolves have a good lineup and they’ll be even more confident after they completed a 10-wicket win in their season opener against Montreal. Royals on the other hand will have to tighten up on their bowling, having lost after putting up 191 against Toronto Nationals. Stats
- James Neesham – 232 runs, 15 wickets in the CWC 2019.
- Shahid Afridi – 8 wickets in last 5 professional games.
- Lendl Simmons – 321 runs in 8 games in 2018 GT20 Canada.
Edmonton Royals
The Edmonton Royals batting lineup has a lot of power and experience in it but I’m all bullish on the lower order batter and all-rounder James Neesham who had a brilliant ICC 2019 World Cup and scored 20 runs to go with 1/33 in 3 overs in the first game for Royals. With the ball, go for slower bowlers like Neesham or the leg-spinners, considering Ish Sodhi was able to do well yesterday and pick up the first 5-fer of the season.
Royals have the perfect choice in their team and that’s Pakistan’s Shadab Khan, having also picked 2/42 in the first game. Brampton have some good bowlers and I’d drop the Edmonton openers Berrington and Dhaliwal, both short on international experience. I’ll pack my fantasy team with international stars like Faf du Plessis, Neesham and Ben Cutting in the middle order, while all-rounder Mohd Haafeez is also an option. He scored 17 and picked a wicket in the last game.
Brampton Wolves
Opening the innings for the Wolves is Lendl Simmons and he’s not someone you want to skip in your Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks as he has performed for almost every franchise he has played for around the world. He scored 37(16)* in the last game and was also the leading run-scorer in the 2018 GT20 Canada tournament, so I will surely have him in my team.
George Munsey from Scotland also had a brilliant debut in the last game scoring 63(24)* and you can gauge his hitting prowess by the fact that he was sent ahead of Colin Munro in the batting order. With the ball, pick the spinners who had 8 of the 10 wickets to fall in the last game. Ish Sodhi picked a magical 5/8 while Rohan Mustafa picked 2/9 in just 2 overs, so these guys will be looking to spin a web around their opponents once again.
