Vital preparations have begun for the all-important 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, and England have got a few games to play before the tournament begins in their own backyard. First however, they’re making a short trip to their neighbours to play a one-off ODI against Ireland at the Malahide Cricket Club. In two previous fixtures in 2013 and 2015, England remain undefeated.
Most of the England cricketers have had good match time in recent weeks, with some being at the Indian Premier League (IPL) and a whole lot playing County Cricket in England itself. Ireland haven’t had the luxury of too many games in recent times. Keep reading this article for our complete Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy preview of the Ireland vs England ODI…

Ireland
William Porterfield has had a poor run of form in recent times while his opening partner Paul Stirling was brilliant in the recent series against Afghanistan in India and has also had some time in the Royal London 50-over tournament. Porterfield managed a top score of 21 in 7 innings against Afghanistan so I’m likely to leave him out of my fantasy team for this encounter.
Someone who has been in scintillating form for the hosts is Andy Balbirnie, with 3 centuries in the last 18 months of his international career, so you can’t miss him. With the ball, pick George Dockrell for sure as he has also begun working on his batting now, batting at #6 and #7 sometimes. Also pick Boyd Rankin, who has 7 wickets in 3 ODIs here, having played for England and Ireland both.
England
Picking the England team may be slightly difficult and you will have to wait for the toss, as there are plenty of team combinations that could be tried out. The likes of Chris Jordan could be tried out ahead of the World Cup, while Ben Foakes seems likely to get an ODI debut. Jofra Archer also seems set to get an ODI debut and he’s someone I won’t miss in my team, especially after some match-winning spells at his recent spell in IPL 2019. Jason Roy and Sam Billings are out with injuries.
With Alex Hales being suspended for 3 weeks due to recreational drug use, suddenly James Vince has a chance of reaching the World Cup. 430 runs in 6 games for Hampshire in the Royal London One Day Cup including a blistering knock of 190 means he’s in the form of his life. Pick him and also go for Eoin Morgan who had a couple of starts in the One Day Cup and is also here playing against Ireland, his former national side.
