The 1st ODI between England and Ireland gave us an idea of what kind of team combinations both teams are looking at. While the English stuttered early on in their chase, they steadied the ship and managed an easy 6-wicket win at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton and all 3 games will be played at this ground – one which is slightly slower and 400+ scores seem unlikely.
Ireland scored 172 batting first in that game and they’ll know that they need at least 220+ to make a contest out of the 2nd ODI. Their bowling was good early on but they need to keep the pressure on at all times if they have to beat England, the latter having an attacking line up. England
This team is world-class and they are the world champions. Their bowling attack may not have the pace and fire that the test squad has. However, there is a certain David Willey who is the most ferocious of them all. He picked his first ever 5-fer in the opening game and if given a chance with the bat, he can have ago as well. Pick more pacers, and maybe go with Saqib Mahmood as Tom Curran didn’t look too convincing.
Talking about bowlers, only 1 wicket fell in 20 overs to the spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, so I’m leaving them both out, especially since it’s unlikely either will get to bat. With the bat, Jason Roy looked fantastic for a few boundaries before he got dismissed, so he shouldn’t be left out while captain Eoin Morgan playing against his former national side Ireland could be a good pick too, smashing a six to wrap up the chase in the 1st ODI.
Ireland
The biggest positive from the 1st ODI for Ireland was the youngster Curtis Campher who played the U-19 World Cup for South Africa and now plays for Ireland, scoring 59* on debut in the last game before picking a wicket as well with the ball. Over the years, Kevin O’Brien has been considered one of the best all-rounders in Irish cricket but I’ll be skipping him because he’s now only a batsman, not bowling in the last game.

The 23-year old Gareth Delany opened the innings and in just his 3rd ODI, he looked intent on scoring runs and impressed during his quick innings of 22, and I’ll pick him over Paul Stirling, who will be in almost every other Nostragamus (Use “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team. One of the bets fighting players Andy McBrine also finds a spot in my team today, batting and bowling well in the last game.
