After experimenting with the pink ball in the last three editions, Duleep Trophy 2019 will return to using the red ball as the tournament will see 4 Tests taking place between India Red, Blue and Green between 17th August and 8th September, a tournament which has always had great prominence and significance towards the Indian team selection.
Match 1 will see India Blue taking on India Green in Bengaluru, and there’s a balance between youth and experience. Blue will be led by youngster Shubman Gill while Green will be led by the veteran Faiz Fazal. Stats
- Shubman Gill – 204* in last innings vs West Indies A.
- 187*, 125* – Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Sri Lanka A in June.
- Rahul Chahar – 6 wickets in 3 games vs West Indies A recently.
- Faiz Fazal – 10 innings since last 50+ score across formats.
- Shreyas Gopal – 20 wickets in 14 games at IPL 2019.
India Blue
India A’s opening pair has been Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the last few months and they’ve been stirring a few storms, especially Gaikwad who hit 2 unbeaten centuries against Sri Lanka followed by 4 50+ scores in his next 6 innings for India A. Gill has been good too and topped it off with a double century in his last innings. Pick both these batsmen.
Shreyas Gopal has to be one of the first bowlers I pick from this team because he has been on a wicket-taking spree in the last few months. He has 17 wickets in his last 9 games and it was 10 games ago that he last went wicketless which includes 3 games for India A and the rest in IPL 2019. He can be handy with the bat if presented the chance so make sure this ‘all-rounder’ is in your fantasy team.
India Green
Middle order batsman Akshdeep Nath only managed 61 runs in 8 games for RCB in IPL 2019 but prior to that, he excelled in the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy in the longest format, scoring 727 runs in 10 games for Uttar Pradesh including 3 centuries and 2 fifties. He’s someone who I’d like to pick because of his improved temperament in the longest version of the game.
Siddhesh Lad is another batsman I’d want in my MyFab11(sign-up with code “READAD46“) fantasy team having made his IPL debut earlier this year and then also recording two fifties in 2 games for India A recently. Another bowler who had 8 wickets in 2 games for India A a couple of months back was Jayant Yadav and while he hasn’t been heavily among the wickets in the domestic circuit, he has plenty of experience and can also contribute with the bat, having a Test best score of 104.
