What we initially took to be a tour of Jersey to Oman, is actually the 2019 CWC Challenge League competition taking place in Oman between 6 countries who could make their way to the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Since these countries don’t have international status in one day matches, all games will be considered as List A ones only.
After a single game on the opening day, we have 2 matches for you on the second day, one being between Italy and Kenya. The latter obviously has much more experience, having also once made the semi-final of a CWC tournament. They also recently played in the 2019 ICC T20 WC Qualifier in UAE. Keep reading for our MyFab11 (sign-up with code “READAD46“) fantasy preview for the ITA vs KEN game…

Numbers
- Gian Meade – only 4 double-digit scores in last 10 games.
- Baljit Singh – 13 wickets in last 10 T20s for Italy.
- Collins Obuya – 11 wickets, 116 runs in 6 games in UAE.
- Irfan Karim in 6 games in UAE recently – 173 runs.
- Shem Ngoche – 14 wickets in last 10 games for Kenya.
Italy
A 14-man squad has been named for this tournament and two names who will miss out are recent captain Gayashan Munasinghe as well as Shameera Arachchige. The new captain is Joy Perera and he should be picked as he’s sure to play and has also been in good form, with a few 30+ scores and a best of 67 against Germany in May. Skip opening partner Gian Piero Sergio Meade who hasn’t been among the runs.
One good all-rounder pick could be Michael Ross who has 9 wickets, a bowling best of 4/15 and a best score of 34 runs in his last 10 T20 games for Italy. Another all-round contributor could be Nicholas Maiolo who played for Western Australia U23’s last year and has 7 wickets in his last 8 international games, to go with plenty of runs as well. Rakibul Hasan also has 12 scalps in his last 10 games.
Kenya
Quite a few new names have joined the squad compared to the last team that played in UAE, so be careful before picking your MyFab11 (sign-up with code “READAD46“) fantasy team. The liked of Pushpak Kerai and Jasraj Kundi will miss out. Someone you should definitely have (as captain or vice-captain) is Collins Obuya, the best all-round performer in their unsuccessful campaign in UAE.
Wicket-keeper batsman Irfan Karim is one of their best with the bat and he proved it in UAE recently too, ending as their top scorer and their only batsman to get to a half-century twice. He also has 2 centuries in just 9 ODIs for Kenya. The side will be led by Shem Ngoche and there’s no way you can leave him out as he hasn’t gone wicketless even once in his last 10 games, while he can be handy with the bat too.
