CWC 2019 Match 8 – South Africa vs India Fantasy Preview

The ICC 2019 World Cup began a few days back and South Africa had the most packed schedule, with 3 games in the first week itself. So far, it has been a horrid start for them, having lost both games and now being pitted against India, who is one of the tournament favourites. India on the other hand are just playing their first game of this tournament and while they are favourites to win, expect a tight game in Match 8 of CWC 2019.

After a 104-run loss to England, SA slumped to a 21-run loss against Bangladesh, so they will want to try and bat first if given the chance here. South Africa have a few injury threats and that just increases their chances of losing and recording three consecutive losses for the first time in their World Cup history. • Shikhar Dhawan in Champions Trophy 2017 – 338 runs in 5 games.

South Africa

South Africa had the existing issue of Dale Steyn’s fitness, being reportedly only 60% fit at the start of CWC 2019. However, he is now ruled out of the tournament while Lungi Ngidi also suffered a hamstring injury in the Bangladesh match, not returning to the field. Similarly, Hashim Amla had a concussion after a hit to the head from Jofra Archer and he may be fit for this encounter, in which case David Miller may be dropped again.

The toughest pick for you would be the wicket-keeper one, choosing between MS Dhoni of India and Quinton de Kock of South Africa, both of who had a brilliant IPL 2019 season. QdK has scores of 68 and 23 so far this World Cup and historically, he has done well against India, so I’ll pick him. With the ball, Kagiso Rabada is a must-pick while Imran Tahir is also going to be a major threat to India, especially since the likes of Rohit and Virat have struggled against leg-spin in recent times.

India

For India, I’ve picked Hardik Pandya as my x-factor player throughout this tournament, so he’s the first name on my team sheet. He had sores of 30 and 21 in the warm-up games and could even be bumped to your captain or vice-captain. Captain Virat Kohli had scores of 18 and 47 in the warm-ups and that 47 vs Bangladesh showed how comfortable he was at the crease, with the ghosts of earlier England tours completely forgotten.

108 vs Bangladesh means India’s #4 conundrum has been solved. KL Rahul gets that spot. However, for me, the player who is vital to India’s chances is Shikhar Dhawan, who loves batting on England pitches, also being the highest run-scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. With the ball, Yuzvendra Chahal picked 4/92 in the two warm-ups so here’s a brilliant pick for your Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy team..
