CWC 2019 Match 7 – Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka Fantasy Preview

Afghanistan put up a pretty decent performance against Australia but they ended up losing by 7 wickets. On the other hand, Sri Lanka was bowled out for under 140 and they suffered a 10-wicket loss against New Zealand, meaning both teams are yet to win a game in the the ongoing ICC 2019 World Cup. Sri Lanka is strong favourite to win Match 7 of CWC 2019 but Afghanistan is very well capable of punching above its weight.

Regardless, one team from these two will open their account in this tournament. When they met in the 2015 ICC World Cup, Afghanistan were bowled out for 232 which Sri Lanka narrowly managed to chase down in the 49th over. Expect another extremely tight encounter between these two, with my prediction being Afghanistan. Keep reading for our Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy preview of the AFG vs SL game…

Afghanistan

In that recent loss to Australia, Hamid Hassan was easily among the most impressive bowlers, giving away zero width and eventually, just 15 runs in his 6 overs. He took a hit to his head and may not feature but if he does, ensure he is a part of your playing eleven. The next pick has to be Rashid Khan, as he smashed Australia around for a few runs before taking wickets, proving his abilities as an all-rounder. More wickets are likely and you can pick him as a captain/vice-captain too.

Both Rashid and Mohammad Nabi were a part of IPL 2019 so if you have the credits the experienced Nabi can also be a part of your team. Mohammad Shahzad looked a little unfit behind the stumps in the last game and even bagged a duck, so I’ll skip him. Mujeeb Rahman’s wicket in the last game was just his second in his last 8 games, so I’ll skip him as well. Gulbadin Naib could be your x-factor player, given his all-round abilities and an impressive 31(33) against Australia.

Sri Lanka

New captain Dimuth Karunaratne would’ve been the most unlikely to end as Sri Lanka’s highest scorer in this World Cup, but he has applied himself and he should certainly be in your team. He carried his bat in the last game and has 4 fifties in his last 6 professional innings. For your wicket-keeper pick, choose between Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera, or with Dream11’s new wicket-keeper rules, you can even choose both.

Since the start of 2018, Thisara Perera has been not only Sri Lanka’s highest run-scorer in ODIs, but also their highest wicket-taker. He hasn’t been in the best form in recent weeks but he hit a few big blows and you can pick him as vice-captain of your Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy team. With the ball, Nuwan Pradeep is fit and ready for selection. Pick him if he’s a part of the playing eleven, or else stick with the experienced Lasith Malinga.
