Everything is suddenly wide open at the ICC 2019 World Cup after England suffered a couple of losses, New Zealand lost to Australia, Pakistan won a couple and of course, Bangladesh impressed one and all. A lot is still at stake for a couple of teams as Bangladesh take on India in Match 40 of CWC 2019. So far, India has 5 wins in 7 games while Bangladesh has 3 in 7 games, including one game lost to rain.
Bangladesh has risen as a team over the years and their last few games against India have all gone much deeper than most cricket fans would’ve initially thought. In this tournament too, Bangladesh has an equal number of 300+ totals (three each) as India and they have showed great composure in their middle order, which India hasn’t. Bangladesh
Firstly, you have no reason not to pick Shakib al Hasan and pick him as the captain or vice-captain of your fantasy team, with him batting at an average of nearly 100. He has 3 fifties and 2 centuries in CWC 2019 with a total of 476 runs in 6 ODIs which comes with 10 wickets too. He has owned the #3 spot and looks confident after his 5-for vs Afghanistan. Mohammad Saifuddin and Mustafizur Rahman have 10 wickets each too and I’ll pick Saifuddin in grand leagues as he’s the less popular player.
Wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim is an integral part of the Bangladesh middle order and I’ll be picking him over MS Dhoni ad Rahim tends to do well against India, scoring 600+ ODI runs against them including 3 fifties and a century. Mehidy Hasan has been the biggest let down with only 30 runs and 5 wickets this tournament but he’s still a very valuable all-round option if he makes the team again.
India
Again, pick the Indian captain Virat Kohli with your eyes closed. Not only does he love this ground with 309 runs in 6 innings at an average of 154.5, but he also has the best ODI record for an Indian batter against Bangladesh. He has 654 runs in 11 ODIs vs Bangladesh with 3 fifties, 3 hundreds and an average of 81+. Thirdly, he has had a great tournament so far with 5 consecutive World Cup fifties, becoming only the second ever to achieve this feat. He will want to improve on his scores of 82, 77, 67, 72, 66 so far.
Rohit Sharma isn’t too far away himself with an average of 85+ at this ground and the only one to hit 3 centuries in CWC 2019, so he is also a must-have. As for Vijay Shankar, his toe niggle has ruled him out of the tournament with Mayank Agarwal being called in as a replacement, but we believe Rishab Pant will keep his place. Also remember to have Mohammed Shami in your Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks, as the pacer has 13 scalps in just 3 games this tournament!
