CWC 2019 Match 33 - NZ vs PAK Fantasy Preview

It has been a flawless tournament so far for New Zealand, winning 5 of their 6 games in the ICC 2019 World Cup, and the one game being lost to rain. However, this unbeaten side has come close to defeat twice in their last two games and if there’s one thing we’ve learnt about them, it’s that they aren’t unbeatable. Now, they play charged up Pakistan team that is fresh off a victory against South Africa.

Pakistan have only managed 2 wins in their 6 games thus far and the goal is very simple for them from here. They have to win all the rest of their games so they will treat each one as a virtual knockout game. The Kiwis are natural favourites especially since they’ve usually dominated Pakistan in ODI cricket, but I’ll be backing the Men in Green. His 4-fer in the last game means he has finally arrived in CWC 2019 and is back to being the number one threat. However, there’s someone who has an even better record against Pakistan and that’s Matt Henry, who has picked up 20 wickets in 8 ODIs against them. His last game vs West Indies wasn’t too great and he may be replaced by Tim Southee. If so, pick Lockie Ferguson. Or else, stick with Henry and Boult.

With the bat, Kane Wiliiamson is among the top run-getters at CWC 2019 with 373 runs in 4 innings including 2 centuries and a fifty. I’m not too keen on picking him but you would have to, so choose him as a normal player. Also good with the bat is Ross Taylor, scoring 2 fifties in 4 innings so far. Remember, he has been impeccable against Pakistan in the past with 1,068 runs in 24 ODI innings including 7 fifties and 3 centuries. Can’t miss him in your fantasy team!

Pakistan

The first name on your fantasy team sheet has to be Mohammad Amir. He has been the bowler of the tournament according to me with 15 wickets in 5 ODIs and he could’ve had plenty more if he fielder caught catches. He’s even worth making a vice-captain today. My captain for this game would be Mohammad Hafeez. With only 29 runs and no wickets in his last 2 games, Hafeez won’t be picked by many but he is one of their best batsmen who will also be doing a bit of bowling since Pakistan is playing a 4-bowler attack.

Starting with recent first, here’s a look at the last ten innings for Babar Azam (all in England) – 69, 48, 30, 63, 22, 112, 80, 115, 15, 51. With 8 wickets in 5 games and being a bit handy with the bat too, Wahab Riaz can also be a part of your fantasy team. In the last game, he batted even before captain Sarfraz Ahmed.
