New Zealand have been impeccable so far in the tournament, one of only two teams to remain unbeaten so far, with 4 wins from their 5 games. On the other hand, Windies have just 1 win in 5 games, beating Pakistan in the opening fixture. One thing we can tell you though is that New Zealand aren’t unbeatable. Apart from the 50 he scored in the opening game against Pakistan, Chris Gayle hasn’t delivered yet. He has had a couple of starts and a duck in the last game. While he has been enjoying himself, Gayle is due a high score. Darren Bravo’s highest score in his last 10 ODIs is 25 including 5 single-digit scores, so not sure why anyone would want to select him. Instead, pick Evin Lewis who scored 70 and that would do his confidence good. Remember, he scored 50 twice in the the warm-up games before CWC 2019 began.
The captain Jason Holder is one of the most valuable players in the side. After taking 4 wickets in the first 2 games, he has gone wicketless but he has played a couple of vital knocks in the lower-middle order and considering Andre Russell’s low fitness levels, I’d prefer Holder over Russell any day. Oshane Thomas has 7 wickets in 5 games so far and he has looked the most threatening, although I’d like to see Windies trying more than just short-pitched bowling.
New Zealand
Trent Boult has an amazing record against England in ODIs and has looked threatening so far too, including 8 wickets in two warm-ups prior to CWC 2019. However, the other two pacers Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry have done so much better in the wickets column, picking up 11 and 7 wickets respectively. Even though I’m a huge fan of Matt Henry, I’m going to skip him today for Boult, while Ferguson is a must have in your Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team.
While everyone is talking about James Neesham as an all-rounder pick, I’m going to go in for Colin de Grandhomme. Apart from the 60 he scored in a vital position in the last game, he has picked up a wicket in all four games played so far without even bowling too many overs. With the bat, Kane Williamson has 1 fifty and 1 century in 3 innings, but I’ll drop him for Ross Taylor who has been NZ’s best batsman in recent months. Before his failure (1) in the last game, Taylor had scores of 82 and 48.
