Again, we’re expecting this to be a very one-sided contest as the hosts England are the much stronger team on paper. In fact, the top 4 teams to qualify to the semi-finals are almost certain at the ICC 2019 World Cup. England have 4 wins in their 5 games so far in the tournament and they now take on Sri Lanka in Match 27 of CWC 2019, with the latter only managing a single win in their 5 games, including two washed out by rain.
Sri Lanka have nothing to lose as they come out to play this game. Given their start against Australia in the last game, you can’t completely rule out this team, especially since they have always played well in World Cups. This is the first game of the tournament at Headingley and you can keep reading for our complete FantasyJi (Use “READ100” to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy preview of the ENG vs SL match…

England
Every one is contributing in this England side. Just when you thought Moeen Ali isn’t producing the good as required, he smashed 31(9)* in the last game and remember, he also has 4 wickets so far in 3 games. However, the strike bowlers so far have easily been Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, with 12 and 9 wickets so far in 5 and 4 games respectively. Archer has very swiftly fitted into this side and Sri Lankas biggest worry is facing this relatively lesser known pacer.
With the bat, pick as many batsmen as you can from England, including your wicket-keeper pick in Jonny Bairstow. He’s coming off a brilliant IPL 2019 and he’s brought it into the World Cup as well. A big score was coming after scores of 32, 51, 45 and 90 was what he got against Afghanistan. Joe Root is also a must pick with 2 fifties and 2 centuries and he has effortlessly being scoring runs in CWC 2019 so far. James Vince should keep his place as Jason Roy is set to miss another match because of his hamstring injury.
Sri Lanka
One threat I could see with the ball is Nuwan Pradeep. He’s one Sri Lanka bowler who bowls his heart out on the pitch and while he could be expensive, wickets are what matter most in fantasy leagues. He picked up 4 wickets in his first game before going wicketless in his second. Pick Pradeep while the experienced Lasith Malinga can also make your fantasy team, with 4 wickets in 3 games thus far.
Not many Sri Lankan players have had a good time in England so far and one of them is Kusal Perera. 29, 78 and 52 are his last three scores and with to consecutive fifties, he makes my FantasyJi (Use “READ100” to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team. If there’s a clash of wicket-keepers, drop him for Bairstow. As for a real value bomb pick, I’d go for former captain Angelo Mathews. He has scores of 0, 0, 9 so far in CWC 2019 and not too many people will be picking him in their teams.
