Okay, it’s very simple and straight forward on paper. Match 26 of the ICC 2019 World Cup is one where a 5-time champion plays a team that has never even reached a semi-final of the World Cup. The mighty Australia is up against an inspired and mature Bangladesh team, one that has been giant killers in the past, coming off wins against West Indies and South Africa in CWC 2019. However, this is still a David vs Goliath clash.
Australia is perched up at #2 on the points table with 4 wins in 5 games while Bangladesh is narrowly outside the top half of the table, with 2 wins and 1 washed out game in their 5 so far. It’s an important game for both are Australia virtually qualify with this win while Bangladesh will find it tough to do so if they lose. Australia
There are plenty of selection conundrums fro Australia. Firstly, there’s a questions of whether they want to include Nathan Lyon in the team as a specialist spinner, someone who has had plenty of success against Bangladesh in Test cricket. Next is the question of Marcus Stoinis and considering he’s close to full fitness, does he come back in for Shaun Marsh? Marsh anyway only managed scores of 23 and 3 in his two games at CWC 2019.
Steve Smith may be a good choice with the bat considering he has 3 fifties in 5 games and plays spin well, so a big score is likely against Bangladesh. We saw Pakistan being bundled out for 105 in their opening game here while Australia were also reduced to 30-odd for the loss of 4 wickets against West Indies, so pace early on may help. Pat Cummins hasn’t gone wicketless since his last 13 games across all forms, including getting 34 scalps in those games. He also has 5 wickets in his last 2 ODIs at CWC 2019.
Bangladesh
No prizes for guessing who I select first in my fantasy team. It’s of course, Shakib al Hasan. The player has grown from strength to strength with two fifties and two centuries against quality oppositions, while also picking 5 wickets in these 4 ODIs so far. There will be a huge price on his wicket. With the ball, Mashrafe Mortaza is the most experienced and his 15 career wickets against Australia in ODIs is unmatched my anyone in the team.
The most reliable player in the Bangladesh team is Mushfiqur Rahim so I’ll pick him as my wicket-keeper; he already has 142 runs in 4 ODIs so far this tournament. The x-factor in your FantasyJi (Use “READ100” to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team would be Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who hasn’t been able to display his abilities so far. He has got 5 wickets and not too many chances with the bat but given the chance, this guy can rake in plenty of fantasy points for you.
