Once not regarded as more than an ‘associate nation’, Bangladesh has grown as a cricketing nation and today, they have been impressing everyone as the ongoing ICC 2019 World Cup. Their tally might show only 1 win in 3 games but let’s not forget than New Zealand only scraped through by 2 wickets while they were unlucky to have to chase a mammoth target like 387 against England in their last game.
Now, they play Sri Lanka in Match 16 of CWC 2019, a team that has a huge share of problems. As if all of this wasn’t enough, they now have also lost Nuwan Pradeep to injury for this game, who is their only bowler to look deadly so far in the tournament. Bangladesh
After a successful stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2019, there’s no question about not having Shakib al Hasan in your fantasy team. He has two fifties and a century so far in CWC 2019 and honestly, he has played brilliantly against all quality oppositions. He can be your captain or vice-captain as well. Another lesser known all-rounder is Mosaddek Hossain and he’s a real value bomb, with 63 runs and 2 wickets so far in the tournament.
With the bat, it has been a lot of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib doing all the scoring. It’s sad to see Tamim Iqbal getting scores of only 16, 24, 18 and throwing away important starts in each game. I’ll go for him and Soumya Sarkar both (42, 25, 2), especially since they can play-off the new ball threat soon and then look for bigger scores. However, I’ll drop Rahim to get a wicket-keeper pick from Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka
With 13 wickets in his last 5 games, Nuwan Pradeep was the only one Bangladesh should’ve been scared of, but that threat has been negated now. In his place, Jeevan Mendis and Milinda Siriwardana are both awaiting chances, with the likely spot going to Mendis. However, I’ll also pick Siriwardana in my CricMoney (sign-up to get Rs.25 FREE) fantasy team, as I believe he could come in for Kusal Mendis. Remember, Mendis has scores of 0 and 2 so far in CWC 2019.
I’m going to go with the experienced trio of Thisara Perera, Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga. Perera has been Sri Lanka’s unlikely leader in ODIs since 2018, with both bat and ball. On the other hand, Malinga is a World Cup super-hero with 45+ scalps. Malinga has 3 wickets in 2 games so far while Mathews will not be picked by many, considering he has scores of 0 and 0 so far!
