This promises to be the biggest and best game of this tournament so far. In Match 14 of the ICC 2019 World Cup, we present to you the Super Sunday which will see 2-time champions India taking on 5-time champions and the defending champions Australia. India won their only game against South Africa while Australia have won both their matches so far in CWC 2019, against Afghanistan and then West Indies.
Both these teams are among the favourites to lift the trophy but Australia seem to have a slight edge. The last time these two teams played an ODI series was in India where the hosts had the 2-0 lead but the visitors came back to win 3-2. In the World Cup too, Australia have always had an edge. India
Historically, India haven’t don well in the CWC against Australia. 2003 World Cup final. 2015 World Cup semi final. And much more. However, India didn’t have Jasprit Bumrah at that time. After picking 19 wickets in IPL 2019, he now has 5 wickets in 3 games since landing in England. Pick him and also pick India’s spinners, as spin has done well here. Bangladesh picked 8 New Zealand wickets in the last game here, of which 6 were to spinners.
After a dismal IPL 2019, Kuldeep Yadav picked 3 against Bangladesh in the warm-up and this pitch might help him with his confidence. Remember, Ravi Jadeja has also picked a 5-fer here in the past. With the bat, everyone was looking at left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan for the big runs because of his success in ICC tournaments. He even has 2 centuries and 1 fifty in 4 games at this ground. I’ll pick him regardless of his bad form.
Australia
No width and quick bowling is what outdid Australia against West Indies. However, if that doesn’t happen again, expect a high-scoring game. David Warner is fresh off scoring 692 runs in 12 games in IPL 2019 and he has followed it up here with 89* in the Afghanistan ODI. He’s one of the first names in my Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team, while I will be skipping Steve Smith. Smith has 3 fifties and a hundred this month but he has looked very scratchy with the bat.
I’ll be picking Usman Khawaja who seems to like batting against India. He scored 383 runs in 5 games in the series against India earlier this year including 2 fifties and 2 centuries. Similarly, Pat Cummins was the highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps in 5 games. Everyone’s focus is on Starc after his 5-for against Windies, but I’m sticking with Cummins. It has been a few months since he went wicketless in a match including 28 wickets in his last 10 international games.
