When you look at the history of these teams, you would say that Australia is a much stronger side and has a much better chance of winning here in Match 10 of the ICC 2019 World Cup. I say this especially after West Indies had to play World Cup qualifiers to get here, where they qualified even though they lost to Afghanistan in the final. However, the 10 teams here are all equal. And trust me, Windies might even have a bit of an edge.
2-time winners against 5-time winners and both teams won their opening fixtures by 7 wickets each. Windies stepped all over Pakistan while Australia completed an easy chase against Afghanistan. Australia begin as favourites but they can’t take the Windies for granted, the latter being an extremely unpredictable team. Australia
Let us talk about the form of David Warner since his return to professional cricket. Smashing 692 runs in 12 games at IPL 2019 was a strong announcement that he’s back, and Windies will want to see his back soon. Lesser width given away to Warner, the better. 5 warm-ups after that and his top score was only 43 but 89* in the Afghanistan game means he’s ready. Steve Smith looks a little scratchy since his return so I’ll skip him.
Glenn Maxwell didn’t have a big part to play in the last game but he could be your x-factor player, having skipped IPL 2019 to play the One Day Cup in England. He has matured as a player and you can select him as your vice-captain today. With the ball, you have to pick the mean machine Pat Cummins while you can skip Mitchell Starc who hasn’t looked as deadly in recent months. Another player you can’t miss is the leg-spinner who always manages to break partnerships, Adam Zampa. He picked 3/60 against Afghanistan.
West Indies
Pick a bunch of fast bowlers from Windies. Sheldon Cottrell and Oshane Thomas were the obvious best against Pakistan, with the latter picking up 4/27 and winning them the game. A third pacer can be selected between Jason Holder and Andre Russell, both of who fall under the all-rounder category. With 11 wickets and 492 runs in the recent IPL 2019, I for one cannot skip having Dre Russ in my fantasy team.
The batsmen have had some fantastic form. Chris Gayle also had a great IPL season prior to which he smashed the English bowlers here in 4 ODIs, scoring 135, 50, 162, 77. In the opening game of CWC 2019, he scored 50 against Pakistan too. He’s determined and so is his opening partner Shai Hope. 3 centuries and 2 fifties have come in Hope’s last 10 international innings and you can’t miss him in your Funtasy11 (sign-up with code “6CD431“) fantasy team.
