Here we are, having reached the ultimate business end of the 2019 CSA T20 Challenge, with the top 4 teams from the original 6 qualifying for the semi finals. It was a rain-marred season and while Knights finished last, it was shocking to have Titans also eliminated, finishing in 5th place on the points table.
Today, both the semi-finals will be played out and Semi Final 1 takes place between Highveld Lions and Hollywoodbets Dolphins. The former topped the points table while the latter finished 4th. Lions
The team has 2 consecutive wins including their last win against Multiply Titans to knock the latter out of the tournament. Everyone will have Bjorn Fortuin in their fantasy teams because of the numbers of points he has accumulated, but the player only has 1 wicket in his last 2 games. I’m going with the more experienced player in Aaron Phangiso who has 7 wickets this season.
Wiaan Muder has also been good in the 2019 CSA T20 so far, with 67 runs and 6 wickets, a majority of those runs coming in one knock of 59*. He has international experience now and he will be vital if the team has to win and progress to the final. Reeza Hendricks has had a quiet season including 2 ducks in 8 games, so I’ll skip him for Rassie van der Dussen. Ryan Rickelton will be my captain today.
Dolphins
A lot of experience comes in the form of Andile Phehlukwayo and Vaughn van Jaarsveld. The latter will contribute with the bat while Phehlukwayo has tremendous all-round abilities. I’m going to play Phehlukwayo as my vice-captain even though he hasn’t been among the wickets, while Jaarsveld is a must-pick.
After a few failures with the bat in the 2019 CSA T20, Cody Chetty has given out a few decent starts but I’d like to see him make better use of those starts and deliver when the team needs it the most i.e. today. Robbie Frylinck is another must-pick as he has 8 wickets this season, including 5 from the last 2 games itself. He can also give it a good tonking with the bat lower down the order.
