When you think of domestic cricket in South Africa, you have to think of Cape Cobras, who have always been their most iconic franchise team, regardless of which tournament they play in. Today, they play Warriors in Match 7 of the ongoing CSA T20 Challenge 2019, on a day where three CSA T20 matches have been scheduled at the same times and different venues.
Warriors have had a brilliant start to their campaign so far with 4 points from their opening game victory and then another 2 points from their washed out second game, putting them at the top of the table. Cobras on the other hand have won one and lost one so far in the tournament, but Cobras certainly begin this one as favourites. - 44, 62, 65, 26, 44* – Kyle Verreynne’s last 5 scores for Cobras.
- 10, 16, 2 – Hashim Amla’s score since return to Cobras side.
- In overall T20 matches H2h, Cobras have won 17 of 26 games against Warriors.
Cobras
Kyle Verreynne has been in some marvellous form for the hosts, regardless of which format he plays, but he is in big doubt for this game considering the fact that he was hit on the head in the previous game. Janneman Malan is another key component and will have to step up today. His 22 in the last game after two successive ducks was a small indicator of what he’s capable of.
One major concern will be Hashim Amla but the coaches are backing him to go all out and hit back into form. However, I’ll drop him as his last professional 50+ score came in January this year. Make sure you pick both of Rory Kleinveldt and Vernon Philander as they offer not only experience and talent, but also batting abilities and you saw their cameos coming useful in the last game.
Warriors
Gihahn Cloete and JJ Smuts have been in terrific form for the Warriors and while the former is a very popular fantasy side pick in recent time, I would prefer someone like Smuts as he also provides a bowling option. JJ Smuts becomes my captain for this game while Cloete is a normal player.
With the Cobras wicket-keeper doubtful, go in for Sinethemba Qeshile. This guy has been good in the lower middle order and has also had a recent call-up to the national side, so he makes my fantasy team. Another player to get a call-up recently was Lutho Sipamla. Him and Andrew Birch could be your bowlers for this game.
