Guyana was among the best teams last season, finishing second on the points table and then losing only to Trinbago in the CPL 2018 final.
As for St Lucia, it wasn’t a great season, finishing in the bottom half of the points table. Guyana has enjoyed recent success between these two teams and once again, they will be favourites especially since they have the home advantage. Someone I’m happy to watch playing T20 cricket is Chris Green, who is a smart bowler who is now also very handy with the bat. He travels to play different T20 leagues and has vast experience. He had 11 wickets in 5 games at the recent 2019 Global T20 League in Canada, before he flew to England to play for the Bears. Here, he will bowl alongside Shadab Khan, Pakistan leg-spinner who had 9 wickets in that same tournament in Canada.
While his international ODI career recently came to an end, Shoaib Malik has been handed over the captaincy. He was dismissed only once in 5 innings at the recent GT20 Canada and it came at a strike rate of 160+. Pick him and also pick Shimron Hetmyer who is going to be their biggest danger weapon with the bat in CPL 2019. It has been 10+ innings since Hetmyer last scored a fifty but once he gets going, there’s not many better T20 batsmen in the world.
St Lucia Zouks
Daren Sammy will lead the Zouks but remember, he isn’t the same force as before with only one game played in Canada and four 30+ scores at PSL 2019. To make matters worse, he has also stopped bowling, so I’ll skip him from my fantasy team. Instead, I’ll pick Thisara Perera as an all-round option, someone who recently revealed his availability for the full tournament.
One of the major reasons for TKR’s success and title in CPL 2018 was Fawad Ahmed and he’s going to be in my Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team today, having been signed by St Lucia for CPL 2019. He was the leading wicket-taker in CPL 2018 and I’m going to have a few spinners in my side which is very much unlike what you would expect from Windies pitches.
