Afghanistan Tour of Scotland 2019 – 1st ODI Fantasy Preview

For Scotland, this series of 2 ODIs will give them that exposure and the rare chance of hosting a test-playing nation. As for the visitors Afghanistan, it’s vital match practice ahead of the 10-team ICC 2019 World Cup which begins at the end of this month. Between 8-10 May, these two will play 2 ODIs in Edinburgh and the visiting team are high favourites.

Surprisingly though, Afghanistan have not been able to dominate Scotland in previous encounters. In the last 5 ODI matches head to head between them, both teams have won 2 each, while one was abandoned. Scotland have the home advantage too, so it’s pretty much even stevens this series. Scotland

There’s not a lot of information going around on this game so let’s go with players we know will play. Firstly, there’s Kyle Coetzer who captains the side and will open the batting, with plenty of experience from playing around the world. He recently played in the Pokhara Premier League in Nepal and there were a few Afghani players there too, so it won’t be new to him. Stu Whittingham, Adrian Neill and Ruaidhri Smith are out with injuries.

Brad Wheal, Tom Sole and the uncapped Gavin Main have been added to the 14-man squad. Two very important bowlers in their side are the experienced Alasdair Evans and Safyaan Sharif. Evans is the leading wicket-taker here among current players while Sharif has been brilliant for the country in recent months, having also received an ESPNcricinfo award for associate bowling performance of the year. With 236 runs and 4 wickets here, Richie Berrington will also be an important player.

Afghanistan

While Afghanistan would usually begin as favourites for this game, two of their biggest stars in Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi miss out since they’re at IPL 2019. The team is being led by Gulbadin Naib and this guy is a must in your Dotball (Sign-up here) fantasy team as he is a match-winner with both bat and ball. He is worth being your captain or at least vice-captain for this game.

Former captain Asghar Afghan is in the form of his life at the moment, with three consecutive ODI fifties against Ireland, followed by 67 in his single innings in the Test match, giving him four consecutive fifties coming into this game. Your wicket-keeper pick can come from this team, with Mohammad Shahzad having 110 runs in 2 games here. Rahmat Shah has a century in one of his two previous games here.
