Associate nation cricket is always fun, especially if it’s in the T20 format. We have the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) hosting the Western Region T20 Cup once again where 8 teams will compete with multiple games held each day over the next 5 days, with all matches being played at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground Oman Cricket (Ministry Turf 1), Al Amarat in Oman.
In Match 1, we have Maldives playing Qatar, with the latter having more exposure in terms of volume in the last couple of months, also hosting the Qatar T10 League a couple of months back. The top two teams from each of the two groups will qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament. This Maldives squad is very different from what they fielded the last tie they played a T20I, including the bowling attack which is completely new. If I know one bowler who will play for sure, it’s Ameel Mauroof who has only 5 wickets in his 10 T20Is for Maldives, but his participation in this game is sure. X-factor all-rounder pick – Umar Adam.
Qatar
The side is being led by bowler Iqbal Hussain and he has always been in the wickets, so he shouldn’t be skipped from your MyFab11 (sign-up with code “READAD46“) fantasy team. To help with the ball is the very experienced Gayan Munaweera who has 10 wickets in 8 T20Is and also recently picked 2 wickets in the 3-match T20I home series against Uganda.
With the bat, we have Zaheer Ibrahim and Kamran Khan at the top of the order, both of whom did very well and were both very consistent against Uganda recently at home. Young wicket-keeper batsman Mohammed Rizlan was fantastic at the Qatar T10 League and he has been picked for the national side too, so I’d definitely want him in my MLD vs QAT fantasy side, seeing his range of shots.
