While India has over the years been considered as a much stronger limited-overs team than New Zealand, the latter have often found themselves in superior positions against India, especially in major international tournaments. Let’s not forget that New Zealand were also runners-up of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, while India were semi-finalists in the last edition.
The two now clash in Match 4 of the 2019 World Cup Warm-ups. The Indian players have mostly been good in the recent IPL 2019 but the challenge will be switching from T20 mode to ODI mode. On the other hand, New Zealand has a deadly swing attack that could prove to be lethal in such conditions. India
After a brilliant IPL 2019, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan are the ones to look out for today, having scored 593 and 521 runs respectively. Dhawan has a habit of scoring big in major world tournaments and he also had a great Champions Trophy here 2 years back. Kohli and Rohit Sharma also scored 400+ runs in the season, but they weren’t at their glorious best. You can get a complete team preview for Team India HERE.
It’s the middle order that will have to be tested, especially the likes of Vijay Shankar and Kedar Jadhav, both of who had poor seasons. Shankar is also said to have left a practice session midway and there’s an injury scare. I’ll skip him from my Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy team today. With the ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah picked 13 and 19 wickets each in IPL 2019 and I’d like to see Bhuvi swinging it a picking up a few scalps.
New Zealand
Kane Williamson played 9 innings in IPL 2019 and surprisingly, there were no innings of great impact there except for one knock of 70*. On the other hand, Martin Guptill looked good in his 3 games there, so I’d pick the opener Guptill for today. Tom Blundell will make my fantasy team as wicket-keeper since Tom Latham is out with injury and may even miss the first official game. Ross Taylor is a must.
Everyone’s talking about how the Kiwi bowling attack is going to be tough to play off this World Cup, but Tim Southee was mercilessly hammers in IPL 2019, returning with figures of 1/118 in his 3 games. On the other hand, Trent Boult picked up 5 wickets in his 5 games while Matt Henry could also be a good fantasy team pick, especially since he won’t be as popular a selection.
