Now you will feel how close the 2019 ICC World Cup actually is, with the warm-up games upon us. The international cricket window is shut and from here, each team just gets these couple of games before the real deal begins in England and Wales. To kick start the warm-up games, we have Pakistan taking on Afghanistan at Bristol, where the former recently played England and lost by 6 wickets.
In that game, England chased down 359 with 5 full overs to spare so that speaks a lot about the pitch and how likely we are to see another run-fest. Pakistan are clear favourites but Afghanistan is not a team you want to take lightly, especially after their recent 126-run win against Ireland in the 2nd ODI. Pakistan
This team hasn’t had the best of years so far in ODI cricket, coming off a 4-0 whitewash against England. However, no one will forget how well this pace attack did in the 2017 Champions Trophy that they won. So, don’t forget to pick two Pakistan pacers, my bets for this game would be Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir. Hasan Ali is a brilliant bowler but he only managed 3 wickets in 4 ODIs recently against England, so I’ll skip him.
With the bat, Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam have been in outrageous form since their arrival in England, both having scored two centuries each. Pick both and one of them has to be your captain as well, with mine being Azam as he is more reliable and consistent. Your all-rounder can come from Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez or Imad Wasim. Wasim got 67 runs and 6 wickets in the recent ODI series and he’s my bet as the other two haven’t had much game time recently.
Afghanistan
Firstly, your wicket-keeper bet comes from Afghanistan in Mohammad Shahzad, especially after his 101 recently against Ireland. Sarfraz Ahmed also scored 97 in his last ODI but I’d rather pack my team with Pakistani openers. Another must-have in your team is Gulbadin Naib, the new captain who is proving to be a major force in this Afghani team and is the best player currently even though most would harp on about Rashid and Nabi.
However, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan also need to be picked in your team, while you can do so as normal players only. Naib has proved himself brilliantly as an all-rounder in recent times, picking up a 6-fer after he failed with the bat in the last ODI against Ireland. Mujeeb Zadran has picked only 1 wicket in his last 6 competitive games (2 ODIs + 4 IPL), so he doesn’t make my DuggOut (sign-up to get Rs.50 FREE) fantasy team for this PAK vs AFG warm-up game.
