Incepted and organised by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), there was a new franchise league set up in the union territory of Delhi. Known as the Delhi Premier League T20, the league kicked off in Aug 2024 with six participating teams, all representing different regions of the union territory.
These teams include South Delhi Superstarz, East Delhi Riders, Purani Dilli 6, Central Delhi Kings, North Delhi Strikers, and West Delhi Lions, and each day on the DPL 2024 schedule was a double-header. Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag was roped in as the Delhi Premier League brand ambassador, to give the league the right push it required.
The men’s and women’s tournaments were launched together, with the first season of the Women’s Delhi Premier League T20 to start on 2nd Sep 2024. The format of the men’s DPL T20 competition is a double round robin followed by the knockouts. Four of the top six will qualify for the semi finals before the all-important DPL T20 final is played.

There were some great bowling and batting performances that we saw in the first edition itself, with some capped and IPL players also participating, like Rishabh Pant, Yash Dhull, Ishant Sharma, Navdeep Saini, Ayush Badoni, and others. There were multiple records broken during the season, including a never-seen-before total of 308/5 by South Delhi Superstarz.
Ayush Badoni scored the highest individual score of the tournament with his 165(55) in the same game, while Priyansh Arya from the same team ended as the top scorer during the DPL T20 league stage.
