Everyone’s excited about the upcoming IPL 2020 season which is just about a month away from today. In the build up, we’ll have a few changes to all the squads as some may get injured or drop out for other reasons. One such news came in yesterday with Englishman Chris Woakes being ruled out of the IPL 2020 season.
Woakes was signed by Delhi Capitals who made a conscious effort to build a better bowling attack for this, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. They didn’t compromise on this even after Woakes was ruled out of the upcoming season, signing another top South African pacer to replace Woakes.
Initially, Woakes was supposed to join the Capitals after the English summer but he’s now expecting a baby in September which means the INR 1.5 crore acquisition at the IPL 2020 Auction is now completely ruled out of playing. Capitals went on to sign Anrich Nortje in his place, an exciting young prospect who has recently been rising to fame.

Nortje recently made his international debut and was even signed to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2019 before a shoulder injury ruled him out of the competition. Next, another injury kept him out of the 2019 World Cup but he’s now 100% fit and he’ll be hoping to stay that way going into the much-awaited IPL season.
“I am excited to join the Delhi Capitals, a team that was the talk of the tournament last season. With its exciting mix of experienced and young players, and a stellar coaching line up, there is no doubt this is going to be a massive learning experience for me. I am grateful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this opportunity,” said Nortje about this development.
The Capitals have a young and talented squad and while they lack experience, they’re certainly one of the contenders for lifting the trophy in IPL 2020.
