A final list of 292 players were announced to go under the hammer at the IPL 2021 Auction and among them were 16 English players. Over the years, the Englishmen have always been the biggest ticket players at the IPL like Andrew Flintoff, Kevin Pietersen, Sam Curran, Ben Stokes and many, many others.
For the IPL 2021 Auction, it was Dawid Malan leading the charge as he’s been in sublime form over the last year of so. While most of these English players have already been a part of the IPL in past seasons, this left-handed middle order batsmen was yet to feature in this cash-rich tournament. This time however, we knew he was going to be picked up for a hefty price!
He was one among a few players who had registered themselves at the second highest base price bracket of INR 1.5 Crore. Considering he was until very recently the world’s number one T20I batsman and considering he has 9 fifties and 1 century in only 19 T20 internationals for England at a smashing average of 53.43, his IPL future was not in doubts at all.

Earlier this year when England played South Africa, Malan played a massive role in smashing the home team all across the park and securing a 3-0 victory as well. In the IPL 2021 Auction, we thought he would’ve been the player of highest interest and eventually after a not-so-intense bidding war, he went to Punjab Kings and will represent them in the IPL 2021 season!
There was no doubt about his talent with the only reservation being that he hasn’t played too much of cricket in India. However, the Punjab management believes he’ll be able to prove his worth and he’ll be one to watch out for not only in the IPL 2021 season but in all future season of this tournament as well.
