It’s probably the most troublesome season that the Indian Premier League has seen so far. In the build up to IPL 2021, a number of staff members and management as well as players have been testing positive for the deadly coronavirus disease. It was just a couple of days ago that we announced Delhi’s Axar Patel getting tested positive for Covid-19.
Now, it’s Royal Challengers Bangalore who will have to do without the services of one overseas player for a couple of weeks. It’s Australia’s Daniel Sams who turned out to test positive, as announced by the franchise on Wednesday, 7th April 2021. As per reports, Sams joined the RCB squad on 3rd April and had a negative report but as per IPL 2021 SOPs, a second test was also required, which he tested positive for.
The Australian all-rounder has been having a great time in professional cricket over the last year or so which led to him even being called up to the national side and he was set to make his IPL debut this year too. However, RCB may not mind this too much as they have a strong overseas army in de Villiers, Maxwell, Richardson, Zampa and others. Read our RCB team preview for IPL 2021 here.

“Sams is said to be asymptomatic thus far and has been isolated at a ‘designated medical facility’. Royal Challengers Bangalore medical team is in constant touch with Daniel Sams and continue to monitor his health and abide by the BCCI protocols,” said the RCB management in an official statement on this issue.
Prior to this, opener Devdutt Padikkal was tested positive for Covid-19 but he’s rejoined the squad now after completing his necessary time in isolation.
