CWG 2022 – India W vs Australia W Live Updates
00:45 IST: It’s all over here at Edgbaston. India was ahead through most of the chase and once Jemimah was dismissed, wickets kept falling and it all came down to who stayed cool under pressure, and that was Australia. It’s still a SLVER medal for India but they will be disappointed indeed. Australia complete the trilogy as India Women once again come close to a trophy and go home empty handed!
We hope you enjoyed our live coverage here. Hope to see you soon again next time…
Australia are the champions of Commonwealth Games 2022. They've won the Gold Medal.

00:40 IST: Jess Jonassen to bowl the final over. Yastika Bhatia denies a single off the first ball. DOT. Second ball sees Meghna Singh complete one run but RUN OUT while trying to complete the second run and hand strike back to Yastika. Third ball and Jonassen strike Yastika on the pad while she tries to reverse sweep the ball to the boundary. She’s given OUT. They complete the gold medal win!
00:34 IST: Deepti Sharma is OUT adjudged LBW. She reviews but it’s a waste of a review. India has allowed this chase to get away from them and this is surely the final nail in the coffin, as she was crucial to completing the chase. 13 runs needed in 9 balls now for India, and 2 wickets needed for Australia. 6 from the over. India needs 11 runs in the last over to win gold at CWG 2022.
00:30 IST: India gets 2 boundaries and lose a wicket in the 18th over. 17 runs needed in 12 balls now. Sneh Rana was run out in that 18th over and Radha Yadav was the new batter in. Remember, the gold medal is at stake.
00:23 IST: Good over for India Women, particularly because of extras. 5 wides plus another wide, and India got 13 runs from the over. They end the 17th over with 134/5 as Alana King ends her spell with 0/40 in 4 overs. India needs 28 runs in 18 balls now. It’s going down to the wire and India is still behind where Australia was at this time.
00:15 IST: Pooja Vastrakar came in and couldn’t do much. She was struggling to get runs and she’s OUT as Ashleigh Gardner gets her second wicket. Is Australia back in the driver’s seat here?! The very next ball is a wicket again as Harmanpreet Kaur tries to lap Gardner and it only take an edge and Healy is able to catch it on the rebound. OUT. India in trouble at 121/5. India need 41 runs in 24 balls now.
00:10 IST: Playing second fiddle so far, Jemimah Rodrigues decided to go for it in the 15th over. She hit a four and got OUT on the third ball. Megan Schutt bowled it straight and Jemimah missed it. India 118/3 and could there be a twist in the tale?! Pooja Vastrakar is the new batter in for India. This gold medal game can easily go either way!
00:05 IST: Alana King finishes her third over and this one goes for 14 runs. 50 needed in 36 balls now. The second last ball of the over was sent upstairs to check a run out but Jemimah made it in easily. The final ball was smashed over mid wicket for SIX by Harmanpreet. India still behind Australia by 2 runs at the same stage, but they’re favourites from here. 90-run partnership and it’s still going.

8th Aug 2022; 00:01 IST: A good over for Australia this time. Jonassen gives away only 5 runs from the over. India 98/2 after 13 overs. Needed 64 runs from the last 7 overs, with the required run rate slightly above 9 per over once again. In this over, Harmanpreet got past yet another FIFTY as well. She holds the key for India from here now.
23:56 IST: First ball – 2. Second ball – FOUR. Third ball – FOUR. Fourth ball – 1. Fifth ball – 1. Sixth ball – 1. McGrath bowls another expensive over, tis time giving 13 from it. India now needs 69 runs in 48 balls as they end the 12th over with 93/2. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur is turning it on, yet again.
23:52 IST: Seven runs off the second over from Alana King, the leg-spinner. India 80/2 after 11 overs and while Kaur got a boundary in the over, we’re still behind the required rate. 82 needed in the last 54 balls now.
23:49 IST: India managed to relieve the burden of the growing required run rate in the tenth over. Harmanpreet managed to hit the third ball of the over from Jonassen goes for SIX and a total of 11 runs from the over. India 73/2 with 89 needed in the last 10 overs. We’re in for an exciting finish for sure.
23:46 IST: Megan Schutt bowled an expensive first over in the powerplay for 12 runs. She came back to bowl the 9th over of the innings and this was a completely different over, giving away just 3 runs. India W 62/2 in 9 overs. In order news, Taniya Bhatia is out with CONCUSSION and she will be replaced by Yastika Bhatia as a concussion sub.

23:42 IST: It turns out to be an expensive first over for the medium pacer Tahlia McGrath as she gives away two boundaries and a total of 11 runs. India is now 59/2 in 8 overs. They’re behind the asking rate but they’ve managed to build a small recovery here. These two will need to bat much deeper if India wants to get GOLD. 103 runs needed in 72 balls now.
23:38 IST: Alana King into the attack for the first time today. She gives away 6 runs. 48/2 after 7 overs.
23:35 IST: Ball 2 – FOUR. Ball 4 – FOUR. Ball 5 – FOUR. Last over of the powerplay is good for India. 14 runs off it. 42/2 in 6 overs.
23:30 IST: Cautious play continues by both batters as they’re trying to consolidate. Jess Jonassen was introduced into the attack and she gives away only 5 runs. India 28/2 after 5 overs. Remember, she was the one who hurt India the last time around.
23:26 IST: Cautious play now from the new pair of Rodrigues and Kaur. A tight over from Darcie Brown and India are 23/2 after 4 overs.
23:22 IST: Another wicket goes down as Shafali Verma throws her wicket away. She was given another chance after being DROPPED a couple of balls ago. She skies one and Tahlia McGrath gets under it as Ashleigh Gardner gets her first wicket. Funny that with McGrath positive for Covid-19, her teammates weren’t even allowed to celebrate with her. India 22/2 after 3 overs.
23:17 IST: Darcie Brown gets hit for a boundary but hits back immediately as she gets the big fish Smriti Mandhana. OUT. She goes for 6(7) after getting bowled behind her legs. She tried to flick it to fine leg but missed it completely. 16/1 after 2 overs as Jemimah Rodrigues is the new batter.

23:14 IST: Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma out in the middle.; Megan Schutt bowls the first over with the new ball and it goes for 11 runs. 11/0 after the first over and it’s the exact start India Women would’ve been looking for. Two boundaries for Shafali in the first over and they’re on a roll.
23:02 IST: Australia Women end with 161/8. Runs on the board in the final and that’s a pretty decent score put up in the CWG 2022 final. They began as favourites and they continue to be favourites going into the second half of this game. India however, will be very happy with their finish and they go into the break with the momentum. Could it turn out to be the difference?!
22:58 IST: India has gone past their allocated time which means there’s a PENALTY as they have to bring one player in; only three outside the circle. Will it cost India?! Deepti Sharma to bowl the final over. Second ball of the over is a direct hit and we have another wicket. OUT. Jonassen has been run out after another direct hit, this time from Mandhana. Jonassen scores 1(2).
22:55 IST: Alana King goes in no time. 150/7 now as she goes OUT after scoring 1(5). It’s Radha Yadav who strikes once again. 156/7 at the end of the over. Haynes batting with Jess Jonassen with 6 balls to spare now.
22:50 IST: It’s a procession of wickets now for Aus Women as Sneh Rana gets the big fish. Bet Mooney OUT after a fine knock and a fifty in the final of the first appearance for cricket in the Commonwealth Games. She goes for 61(41) as Aus Women drop to 142/6 now.
22:45 IST: Renuka Thakur comes back to bowl her final over and she strikes on the second ball. Grace Harris OUT. Australia W are 138/5 after the 17th over as Renuka ends with 2/25 in her four overs. Rachael Haynes is the new batter at the crease.
Yet another outstanding bowling performance from Renuka Thakur 👏
— Anirudh (@OffDrive_) August 7, 2022
22:40 IST: Redemption for Sneh Rana in her third over. OUT stumped off the first ball. End of Gardner’s heroics as she walks away with 25(15) and India has pulled it back yet again. 125/4 now. Mooney is still the danger batter and India will want to see the back of her soon.
Rana still concedes 8 runs from that over. Aus – 133/4 after 16 overs. A potential big score coming up…
22:38 IST: Expensive over from Radha Yadav this time. Aus Women 125/3 after 15 overs. A SIX from the first ball.
22:35 IST: 5 runs off the over. 114/3 after 14 overs. Fifth ball was a tough catch behind the stumps but it will go down as DROPPED.
22:32 IST: Only six runs came from the first five balls of the 13th over but Mooney swept one away and got FOUR as Aus Women get to 109/3 in 13 overs, going at a very healthy run rate as of now. India W needs more wickets for sure.
22:27 IST: McGrath has just walked in and she’s walking back out. Radha Yadav is in action again, this time taking a flying catch. OUT! Deepti Sharma with the ball and McGrath cuts one to point where Yadav isn’t going to let anything past her. Two quick wickets and it’s 87/3.
However, there were two outside edges as soon as Ashleigh Gardner came out to bat, both running to the boundary and making it an expensive over at the end of it all. 12 runs off it and Australia are 99/3 after 12. The last ball of the over was another piece of magnificence from Yadav as she affected a direct hit, but the batter was in.
What a catch by Radha Yadav, she has been incredible in the final. pic.twitter.com/MjEls0CiJC

22:22 IST: Tahlia McGrath is the new batter in and we’re told she’s actually positive with Covid-19 but has been cleared to play either way. At the end of the 11th over, Australia W are 87/2. Radha has been good, giving away only 7 runs in her two overs, while also showing brilliant presence of mind to effect that run out. See here:
Incredible Radha Yadav, what a work to run-out Meg Lanning. pic.twitter.com/KAM6xWEdNU

22:18 IST: Radha Yadav works her magic in the CWG 2022 final. OUT. She gets the Australian captain Meg Lanning for 36 as Aus Women slip to 83/2. Coming to the ball, she bowled to Mooney who hit it back to the bowler. Seeing Lanning out of her crease, Yadav flicked it from between her legs and hit timber behind. Upon taking it upstairs, the decision was made as OUT!
22:15 IST: India captain Harmanpreet Kaur takes matters into her own hands. Second ball of the over – FOUR swept away to the fence by Mooney. Fourth ball of the over – FOUR off the pads to fine leg for Lanning. Fifth ball of the over – FOUR over the top of mid off by Lanning. Sixth ball – FOUR towards backward square leg. 17 runs off the over. Aus W 83/1 after 10 overs.
22:12 IST: Second ball of the over. FOUR to Mooney. Fourth ball of the over. FOUR to Lanning. Very expensive first over from Pooja Vastrakar, as the momentum is shifting towards Australia Women. A little loose bowling and the favourites are in a strong position at 66/1 after 9 overs. 12 runs off the opening over for Vastrakar – most expensive of the innings so far.
22:06 IST: Team India fans will be hoping that spin will arrest the Australia momentum here. Yadav gave away only 3 runs in her first over but Sneh Rana’s first over on the other hand turns out to be an expensive one. A boundary to Mooney in the over and a total of 8 runs given away. Aus Women 54/1 after 8 overs.

22:03 IST: Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav has been introduced into the attack immediately after the powerplay and she’s bowled a really tight over to begin with. Just 3 singles and 3 dots from it as Australia Women end with 46/1 after 7 overs.
21:58 IST: Powerplay ends with Australia Women at the score of 43/1 after 6 overs. India Women held the advantage after the first five overs but a SIX from Meg Lanning on the fifth ball followed by four byes on the last ball takes Australia W to a decent powerplay score. They’re back in the driver’s seat right now.
21:54 IST: Australia Women getting a little comfortable right now. 8 runs from the over and then end 5 overs with 30/1. A boundary to Lanning in the over.
21:50 IST: 22/1 after 4 overs. One boundary from Beth Mooney in the over. Deepti Sharma being introduced into the attack, to bowl the fifth over of the powerplay. She has a good record against the Australian side. She’s even picked the wicket of Mooney thrice in the past. Can she do it again?!
21:46 IST: Australia Women 14/1 after 3 overs
21:43 IST: Jubilation or India early on. Over 2.2 from Renuka Thakur and she gets Alyssa Healy once again. OUT! Appeal was turned down and Harmanpreet Kaur goes for the review at the extremely last minute. Luckily for them, she was in time and ball tracking showed it was hitting the stumps. Healy goes for 7(12) and Meg Lanning is walking in. Aus Women 9/1.
Renuka Thakur strikes!
Alyssa Healy is out LBW for 7 runs.

21:40 IST: Another tight over, this time from Meghana Singh. Australia 9/0 after 2 overs. However, we’ve seen how Australia W can catch up later, so it’s a lot about early wickets for the Women in Blue today.
21:35 IST: 6 runs from the first over. An outside edge past slip for boundary was the highlight, and some swing for Renuka noticed once again. 6/0 after 1 over. Beth Mooney yet to face a delivery.
21:15 IST: Australia Women have won the toss and chosen to bat first! Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney are walking out to bat. For India, it’s Renuka Thakur with the new ball. Remember, she picked up 4 wickets in the first game against Australia Women in this CWG 2022 itself. Expect some swing…
