Following the men’s tournament in Australia, we saw the launch of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) with the 2015-16 season, and there’s been no looking back since then. They don’t run simultaneously with the men’s tournament but they have their own window which is a great sign for women’s cricket not just in Australia, but around the world as well.
Hat-tricks in T20 cricket are super rare because it involves a bowler picking up 3 wickets in 3 consecutive deliveries. In the WBBL history so far however, there have been multiple occasions where bowlers from different teams have picked up WBBL hat-tricks. The first WBBL hat-trick was picked up by Australian off-spin bowler Nicole Bolton who was representing Perth Scorchers at the time of this rare achievement. She hurt the Hobart Hurricanes Women team that da in 2015, picking up the hat-trick with two wickets in the 12th over and then the first ball of the 14th over as well, ending her day with figures of 3/24 in 4 overs.

So far, there have been a total of seven (7) WBBL hat-tricks from start of the competition till date, with no bowler having managed to enter the WBBL hat-tricks list on multiple occasions. From the batters who have been victims in these WBBL hat-tricks, it’s interesting to note that Corinne Hall and Laura Harris werre part of two different hat-tricks, with Hall being a victim to Nicole Bolton in WBBL 2015 and Dane van Niekerk in WBBL 2017. Similarly, Harris fell to Darcie Brown’s hat-trick ball in WBBL 2021 and then again to Caoimhe Bray’s in WBBL 2025.

It’s unfortunate to know that a hat-trick is not always enough to guarantee yourself victory in any match as Bolton and Darcie Brown both picked up WBBL hat-tricks for their respective teams in losing causes.
