Cricket has a long and rich history in the Caribbean islands with the first recorded limited overs game being played on 18th March 1970. A couple of years later, the first domestic List A knockout tournament was held called the Banks Trophy, where four teams participated and eventually, Barbados defeated Guyana in a closely fought final, recording a 9-run victory.
From that year, the List A tournament has been organised every year by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and while it’s had multiple other names due to sponsorship reasons, the tournament called Super50 Cup has grown to be an integral part of the cricket calendar for the Caribbean islands. Here on this page, we’ll take a look at every edition of the tournament and all Super50 Cup winners till date…
In recent years, the Super50 Cup format has mostly been fixed to be group stage followed by the knockout stage, with eight teams taking part in every edition. Overall, as many as 25 teams have participated in past Super50 Cup editions including some countries in Canada (9 seasons), Bermuda (5 seasons), Ireland (1 season), and USA (5 seasons). Only Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago have played every edition till date.

After Trinidad and Tobago, the next most successful team in this competition’s history is Jamaica who have 9 titles under their belt (8 won and 1 shared), while Guyana also has 9 (7 won and 2 shared). However, it’s been 15+ years that Guyana last won a Super50 Cup title and they’ve been off their best form for a really, really long time now.
In terms of captains in this tournament, Daren Ganga is the most successful one as he led the Trinidad and Tobago side to four (4) titles in the years 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009. No other current captain has even won two titles, so we expect this record to stay for a long time to come. Carl Hooper and Brian Lara led their sides to 3 respective titles each in the Super50 Cup over the years.

As this tournament dates back a far way, we don’t have details of every edition’s player of the match in the final. Sometimes, the player of the match wasn’t even announced, but we’ve mentioned them wherever we have the details. Among individual performers, one person to have been announced MOM in two different Super50 Cup finals, is Sunil Narine, who won the award in the 2016 as well as 2023 Super50 finals.
