Cricket across India has always been very prevalent in the regional sectors. However, these domestic tournaments are now being formalised and commercialised all across the country, helping the growth of players from different states in India. One such tournament was launched in 2024 by the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS).
The Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League (CCPL) is a very new tournament, with its inaugural season currently ongoing in June 2024, with the very first CCPL T20 season beginning on 7th June 2024, and scheduled to run until 16th June. The league is officially sanctioned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the governing cricket body in India.
The CCPL 2024 season features six teams namely Raigarh Lions, Bastar Bisons, Raipur Rhinos, Rajnandgaon Panthers, Bilaspur Bulls, and Surguja Tigers, representing various regions in the state of Chhattisgarh. Former India and Chennai Super Kings cricketer Suresh Raina was appointed the CCPL T20 brand ambassador for the first season.

There isn’t a long history to tell yet in this competition but we expect a lot more to come here over the years, allowing growth of Chhattisgarh players to the national and international level. As you can see, the first season is still underway so we don’t have any inputs on who’s won the tournament as yet. However, when we last checked the CCPL 2024 points table, the Bilaspur Bulls team was at the top with 4 wins in their 5 games thus far. They were followed by the Raipur Rhinos, so it’s safe to say that one of them could go on to win CCPL 2024.
A total of 18 T20s were on the CCPL T20 schedule and among the big names to be included in the season were IPL 2024 fame Shashank Singh who played a couple of unbelievable cameos for Punjab Kings. Over time, we can expect bigger names and more games to be played in each season, as the CCPL tournament sees expansion.
Every game was held at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur, with free entry for fans as well.
