Cricket Australia Makes Changes to BBL 11 Schedule

If you woke up this morning and saw some changes in your fantasy team squads or the 2021/22 Big Bash League schedule, don’t worry, it’s not just you. t first, we thought we made an error in reading the schedule but in fact Cricket Australia (CA) has gone on to make changes in the ongoing BBL 11 schedule because of the Covid-19 breakout among many of the squads.

Earlier this year, both PSL 2021 as well as IPL 2021 were cancelled mid season because of Covid-19 cases and Cricket Australia is trying their best to ensure they won’t have to cancel this tournament as well. A few days ago, Stars and Thunder squads were hit by positive cases and now, it’s spread to the Brisbane Heat camp as well, which has forced changes to the BBL 11 schedule.

BBL 11 schedule changed due to Covid-19

Today, 4th Jan 2022, was supposed to be a clash between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers and trust us, it was going to be a one-sided encounter with the Sixers having won two BBL titles in a row and this year, having lost just one game so far. Now however, it’s Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers in Match 35 which is scheduled to take place today.

To be honest, it’s a little unfair to Sixers as they were preparing to play Heat until this morning and now, they’ve got a new opponent. In fact, it’s an opponent who has also lost just one game so far in BBL 2021/22. Because of this positive rapid antigen tests in the Heat camp, this game has been scheduled today which was anyway supposed to be played on Thursday, 6th Jan 2022.

It then means back-to-back games for the Sydney franchise as Heat have had their clash pushed by a day and will now take on Sixers on Wednesday, 5th Jan 2022. “Firstly, our thoughts continue to be with players and staff across all Clubs, plus all in the wider community, who have been infected with COVID-19. We wish them all the best for a speedy recovery,” said Big Bash League GM, Alistair Dobson.

“The League and Clubs have learned to be nimble in the current environment and we are pleased that we have found a solution to help safeguard all three matches so quickly. We thank all Clubs for their cooperation and our fans for their understanding in these rapidly evolving circumstances,” he added.

We’ve got to agree that it’s been some really good work and support from all authorities and staff involved that has allowed the league to continue so far, without any major disruptions. Covid-19 is not something to be taken lightly and health will always take priority. However until there’s something super serious, we hope for continued entertained in the 2021/22 Big Bash League.
