Ever since the coronavirus lockdown first happened, cricket first started opening up in Europe and we were exposed a lot to cricket in that continent because of the travelling Dream11 ECS T10 series taking place in different European cities. There were a couple of stops in Romania as well, where we got to see some of the top cricketing talents in that part of the world.
That’s where we at Read Scoops also first saw Pavel Florin, a national side player who is now 42 years old but he’s still loving his cricket. He played in the Romania T10 tournament and has also been a regular part of the national setup, and has 15 wickets in 16 T20 internationals for the country, bowling so called ‘off-spin’.
We said so-called because his action is super unique and completely one-of-a-kind. Probably the most we’ve ever seen someone flight the ball, he’s actually quite effective and doesn’t go for all those many runs you’d expect someone with such an eccentric bowling style to go for. In fact, his career economy rate (as of Sep 2021) is only 7.74 in T20Is.
He was once interviewed after one of these ECS T10 games back in 2019 about his bowling style an he replied saying, “Maybe someone is saying my bowling is not beautiful or not effective, but I don’t care. Because I love cricket.” The video went viral on YouTube and has over 3 million views till date, and still growing.
