One of the two new franchises to join IPL 2022 is Lucknow Super Giants and they’ve already been having a tough time trying to figure out the best team combinations for their debut IPL season. And then to make things worse for them, Mark Wood was ruled out of IPL 2022 which meant one of their main picks from the IPL 2022 Auction was no longer available, further escalating their issues.
And considering Lucknow had only 21 squad players which dropped to 20, they had to sign a replacement as it doesn’t meet the IPL’s minimum squad member criteria. And reports suggested that it was Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed who was set to join the LSG squad for the upcoming season, until it was revealed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) didn’t provide him with an NOC to play the tournament.

And finally, the news was out that they went towards Zimbabwe looking for a replacement, which they found in Blessing Muzarabani. Now if you don’t know about this guy, let us tell you that he’s young and very tall and generates decent amount of pace and bounce to trouble batsmen, especially Asian batsmen. And he’s one of the few who retired early from Zimbabwean cricket to play County cricket in England.
It basically means he’s coming to the Lucknow squad for IPL 2022 with a lot of experience, playing in several leagues including the recently concluded PSL 2022 in Pakistan as well. He will add an option to the team’s bowling unit which was slightly suffering, which you can read more about in our Lucknow Super Giants team preview for the IPL 2022 season.
At the time of writing this, the official announcement wasn’t made on the Lucknow Super Giants social media pages, in order to build some hype and engagement among their fans and followers. However, we’ve been following updates online and Muzarabani has already left to join the squad in India, and it’s likely he makes his IPL debut as well.

This isn’t just a major step in the right direction of Muzarabani’s career but it also is brilliant for Zimbabwe cricket as there is no representation from this country in the IPL. We’ve seen national players from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, USA and even Singapore play in the IPL and it’s surprising that Zimbabwe doesn’t have representation even though they’ve been around in international cricket for decades.
