The Big Bash League (BBL) as the name suggests is known for the big bashing and hitting from batsmen, highest scores, longest sixes, and much more. And through all these massive blows, there are the few bowlers who have managed to stand out and make a name for themselves in between all the carnage. Some of these bowlers have even gone on to bag hat-tricks in the Big Bash League.
For those who don’t know, a hat-trick in cricket is when a bowler manages to get three wickets off three consecutive legal deliveries. In the BBL T20 competition, hat-tricks have been super rare but they’ve happened as many as 9 times through the years, with each of them being very memorable moments and days for the respective bowlers involved.
The first ever BBL hat-trick was taken back in the BBL 2012/13 season by veteran spinner and national side bowler Xavier Doherty who did so for the Hobart Hurricanes against Sydney Thunder. More than a decade after that day, his hat-trick remains the only one picked up by a Hurricanes bowler in BBL T20 history.

Being one of the most successful teams in the Big Bash League, it’s funny that no Sydney Sixers bowler has picked up a BBL hat-trick till date. We’ve put together a complete Big Bash League hat-tricks list (updated as of 31st December 2022), during the BBL 2022/23 season where one hat-trick was already bagged. Take a look at the complete BBL hattricks list below:

From the 9 BBL hat-tricks taken till date, 8 of them are taken by different bowlers and only one bowler has managed to pick up a BBL hat-trick on two different occasions – Andrew Tye – getting them in consecutive seasons between BBL 2016/17 and BBL 2017/18. He picked both of them for the Perth Scorchers, one against Brisbane Heat and the other against Sydney Sixers.
One of the most unluckiest batters when it comes to facing BBL hat-trick deliveries has to be Daniel Sams. He’s the only person to be a victim to a BBL hat-trick on more than one occasion. He was the third victim to Tye’s second hat-trick, also the third victim to Haris Rauf’s hat-trick, and then went on to become the fourth victim to Cameron Boyce’s double hat-trick!
Yes that’s right, Cameron Boyce is the only one in BBL history to pick up a double hat-trick, getting four consecutive wickets for the Renegades against Sydney Thunder in BBL 2021/22. Haris Rauf and Rashid Khan picked up hat-tricks on 8th Jan 2020, making it the only time we witnessed two BBL hat-tricks on a single day, though they happened in different games!
