It took years between every new franchise T20 league earlier but now, we’re seeing new leagues pop up every now and then. The same happened with the UAE International T20 League and the South African SA20 League, both of which had scheduled Jan 2023 for their respective inaugural editions, with big signings in both leagues, some even overlapping.
There was particular interest in the SA20 League because several big IPL team owners decided to pump money into the upcoming tournament, thus bringing the Indian league’s fan-base and followers into SA20. So yes, the tournament will be called the SA20 League 2023 for the inaugural edition, signing a multi-year agreement as title sponsor. The sports betting giant Betway is known for such sporting sponsorship deals across the world through different sports and they’ve now decided to expand their portfolio with the SA20 League, which is scheduled to being on 10th Jan 2023 for its first season in South Africa.
Betway is one of the world’s biggest online sports betting platforms and in cricket, they’ve got tie ups with national cricketing bodies Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Cricket West Indies, which is why we often see Betway as the title sponsor in South Africa international home series as well. The SA20 League is expecting viewership in millions and Betway clearly made a right decision with this sponsorship agreement.

Joburg Super Kings, Pretoria Capitals, Durban’s Super Giants, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Paarl Royals, and MI Cape Town are the six teams that will play the inaugural season and you can check out the 2023 SA20 League squads here.
