They are the join most successful franchise in the history of the Big Bash League. We’re talking about Sydney Sixers who have made 5 finals in 10 editions of the tournament so far, with three of them being victorious campaigns. In fact, they’re the defending champions and are in search of completing a hat-trick of titles as they’ve won the last two editions. Can they complete the treble in BBL 2021/22?

Their work ethic and the way the team plays as a unit is what makes them unbeatable. They don’t have many players who play T20s for the national side or many big names, but they manage to get the job done, always. The side is being captain by Moises Henriques and he’s not been in the best of touch of late, getting four single-digit scores in 5 T20Is against Bangladesh in Dhaka recently, and he doesn’t even bowl much now.
But if you’re looking for that ideal all-rounder, they found it in Daniel Christian. Super experienced, he’s been around since a while but the 38-year old has been on fire of late. He didn’t have a great IPL 2021 for RCB but last year, he had a stellar BBL 2020 with 15 wickets and 272 runs, scoring them at a strike rate of 180+! He manages to get the job done when called upon, regardless of the situation.

If you talk about all-rounders, they also have the big West Indian Carlos Brathwaite who hasn’t done much in his career ever since that 2016 ICC T20 World Cup final. However, his bowling seems to work well on these Australian pitches and 16 scalps in BBL 2020 proves that. He’s in demand here, unlike other franchise leagues across the world. Englishmen Tom Curran and James Vince are the other two overseas picks.
Already having a good fast bowling attack, we don’t think Curran will get much of game time but James Vince is going to be a very important part of the middle order. With 537 runs in BBL 2020, Vince finished second on the tournament’s run scorers’ chart, just 6 runs behind his countryman Alex Hales. The rest of the top order will rest heavily on the likes of Daniel Hughes and Josh Philippe this year.
The reason we believe Curran will be left out because their pace bowling attack is sorted, led by Sean Abbott who is the second highest wicket-taker in BBL history. Jackson Bird and Ben Dwarshuis will also play a big role, especially in the powerplay overs. Remember, Dwarshuis has a fantastic BBL 2020 where he ended as the second highest wicket-taker, picking 24 wickets in only 13 games!
