With most of the major Indian states launching their own T20 leagues in recent years, the Andhra Cricket Association decided to launch the Andhra Premier League (APL T20) as well, with the inaugural edition being hosted in 2022. The success of that first edition meant that the tournament had to come back, with several changes to get even bigger and better than the first season.

They were quick to announce APL 2023 and future editions too, and while the competition has a short history so far, we expect it to grow because of a number of IPL and Team India cricketers from the region being a part of the 7 participating franchise teams. The first edition saw Coastal Riders beating Bezawada Tigers in the APL 2022 final, by a narrow margin of just 7 runs. They put up 176/8 after batting first and managed to restrict the Tigers to 169/7 in their 20 overs, thus becoming the first ever Andhra T20 League winners after a rain-affected APL 2022 final which was played over two days on 17-18 July 2022.
Playing a defining knock in that final was lower order batter Sirla Srinivas who went on to put up a crucial 40(20) before getting run out, thus propelling his team to a winning total, and eventually being awarded the Man of the Match in the APL 2022 final. The Coastal Tigers proved that they weren’t any one-time wonder in 2022, by topping the APL 2023 points table and making the final once again. They became the most successful of Andhra Premier League teams, having made both of the first two finals, facing off against Rayalaseema Kings in the APL 2023 final, where they weren’t able to defend their title, losing by 5 wickets.
Andhra Premier League Season 3 saw yet another winner in Vizag Warriors, who beat Uttarandhra Lions in the final by a whopping margin of 87 runs, where Ashwin Hebbar starred in the final with 91*. So far, none of the teams have gone on to win multiple titles in APL T20, but that could change really soon as future editions take place.
