We have some breaking news coming in this afternoon as former Team India and current Chennai Super Kings batsman Ambati Rayudu has decided to call it quits and end what has been an illustrious career so far. He’s had his ups and downs, disciplinary issues, great runs of form, and much more. However, it’s all coming to an end pretty soon.
In the last couple of seasons in the Indian Premier League, a lot of questions have been raised about his fitness and his actual contribution to the team. Take a look at the IPL 2022 season for instance, he’s only managed one fifty in 12 games so far and having realised that his form is dwindling, the talented middle order batsman announced his IPL retirement a few minutes ago.
Ambati Rayudu announces IPL retirement
Now 36 years old, Rayudu played one fine knock of 78 in just 39 balls earlier in IPL 2022 against Punjab Kings and that was the only time this season that he displayed his skills as a batsman, one that was often considered one of the finest in the country. However, his fitness came to light in that game as he wasn’t able to run or even stand at one point of time, which cost the team in that game against Punjab Kings.
Earlier today, Rayudu took to social media to announce the end of his IPL career, making a special mention and thanks to Chennai Super Kings and his former franchise, Mumbai Indians. He mentioned how he’s had a wonderful thirteen years in the IPL playing for these two fantastic teams.

However, there was a u-turn that followed, hardly 30 minutes after the tweet was sent out on his Twitter handle where he has around 400k followers. The tweet was immediately deleted and that’s sent social media into a tizzy, wondering what may have conspired for this move to have been made.
Remember that there are already issues taking place in the CSK camp with Ravindra Jadeja being appointed as captain, then removed as captain, and then being ruled out for the rest of IPL 2022. He was even unfollowed by the official CSK Instagram handle which indicates that all is not okay in the team camp.
With Rayudu posting his retirement and deleting the same within just 30 minutes, a lot of speculation is arises with regards to what must be happening between him and CSK management as well. It could be a breach of his contract for having made a public announcement without prior intimation?! It could be a change of mind after positive replies from his fans and followers?! Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan swiftly called a major news channel in India after Rayudu’s tweet to clarify the issue and let people know that Rayudu will stay with the franchise. He said, “Ambati Rayudu is not retiring. Maybe he wasn’t happy with his performances and might have put it out. Just a psychological thing, I reckon. He’ll be with us.”
