Sri Lankan mystery spinner Akila Dananjaya has been ruled out of the 3rd and final Test match against England which is scheduled to be played at SSC starting from Friday (Nov 23). Akila has to undergo an official assessment on his bowling action in Brisbane within 14 days of being reported.
In case if you are not aware, Dananjaya was reported for suspect bowling action during the first Test match against England in Galle last week. As per the ICC rules and regulations, a player is permitted to bowl at the international level until the results of the assessment tests are out.
As a result, Dananjaya played in the 2md Test match against England in Pallekele in which he registered his career best bowling figures – 6 for 115 in the 2nd innings. The uncapped Nishan Peiris will replace Dananjaya for the final test match.
Dananjaya picked up 8 wickets in total in this 2nd Test match against England in Pallekele while he also contributed with the bat scoring 31 runs in their 1st innings. In the wake of Herath’s international retirement, this has come as a real blow for the team who already lost the series to England.
“Unfortunately he’s [Akila Dananjaya] not available, because he has to go and do the testing within 14 days. He’s going to Brisbane on the 20th or something, to do the test on the 23rd, so he’s not available,” Sri Lanka head coach Chandika Hathurusingha told media at the conclusion of the 2nd Test match against England in Pallekele.
The visitors England has already won the 3-match Test series against Sri Lanka – won the 1st Test match in Galle by a margin of 211 runs and won the 2nd Test match in Pallekele by a margin of 57 runs. The 3rd and final Test match of the series will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo starting November 23.
