It’s a big game in the Indian Premier League with Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2, both fighting for a spot in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders. And just when you thought that Hyderabad put up a below par total, the ball was turning on a slower pitch in Chennai, and Rajasthan Royals was being torn apart.
Seeing the turn in the wicket, SRH captain Pat Cummins called in Aiden Markram to bowl, with RR already 5 wickets down. He came in to bowl the 13th over and it was the first time he’s bowling in IPL 2024. The second ball of the over, he let the ball slip from his hand and it ended up where a traditional short leg fielder would be present.

Kevin Pietersen on air had a lot of fun seeing that ball slip out of Markram’s hand and called it the worst ball he has ever seen in cricket. He also asked for Hawk-Eye to track the ball and see what it would show up. Markram was obviously embarrassed and looked at his hand to fake that there was dew in the conditions. Markram went on to concede nothing additional off the free hit and conceded only 10 runs in his over. However, he wasn’t called upon to bowl another over in the innings. At the end of the 15th over when we were last updating this article, RR was 102/6 with Dhruv Jurel and Rovman Powell at the crease.

Markram has had a poor IPL 2024 season and today was a chance to get some runs under his belt. However, he only managed 1(2) and that extended his horrible season with the bat. He was given a chance with the ball but unfortunately, he couldn’t do much with the ball either.

In this particular game, Markram was brought in for Vijaykanth Viyaskanth from Sri Lanka, but he wasn’t able to prove his inclusion in the team.
