We’ve witnessed some of the biggest hitting in world cricket in just a couple of days since the 2022 Trinidad T10 Blast began at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. And we’ve already seen a couple of brilliant individual knocks including two fifties from West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine, and a near century for Jyd Goolie in what was only the opening game of the tournament.
Jesse Bootan was the next player to get into action on Sunday which was the second day of the tournament and there, he smashed five consecutive sixes and ended with a 31-run over. However, all the limelight has been on Narine’s team called Soca King as they’ve crossed 150 in all their three games and in their latest game, they scored 70 runs in their last two overs and that includes a record 40-run over.
40 runs in an over at Trinidad T10
We’ve seen the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Gary Sobers and even Kieron Pollard hit six sixes in an over but for the first time ever, we’ve heard of a 40-run over where all the balls didn’t even have to disappear for six in order to reach this record. Both very known names in the international circuit, it was Jason Mohammed and Sunil Narine who combined to wreak havoc among their opponents.
The over included three sixes off legal deliveries and another couple of sixes off no balls, which amounted to 32 runs from there itself. A wide to begin the over and a single from Mohammed got it to 34 runs while Narine got a single off a no ball and a boundary to his name too, adding up to 40 runs in the over. The best part is that the over even had a DOT BALL!

While Mohammed was the major contributor to this 40-run over, Narine also contributed and it’s not too often that you get to see such massive overs. In fact, we haven’t seen it in so many years of watching cricket, and don’t think another one is coming anytime soon. The unfortunate bowler of this tenth and final over of the Soca King’s innings was Dexter Sween.
The bowler had an inexpensive first over which included a wicket and not in his worst dreams would he have expected to end with figures of 1/50 after his 2 overs quota was done. Mohammed ended with 93(33)* and Narine ended with 68(22)* while the duo took the team to the highest score of the tournament – 192/1! And we keep saying that it’s early days because after so many great knocks and matches, we’re still only three days into the tournament. We can expect many more batting spectacles and records to be broken in the days to come.
