This will be the 12th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup and in decades since the first tournament, the was the first time India had such a predictable squad to the World Cup. The first eleven was almost certain and just a couple of places were up for grabs, which eventually went to the likes of KL Rahul and Vijay Shankar; the former made it due to a fantastic IPL 2019 with 593 runs while the latter made it due to his impressive overseas performances since making his Team India debut.
1 wicket and 244 runs in the recently concluded Indian Premier League means Shankar may well be warming the bench and KL Rahul has grabbed that #4 spot after coming back strong from his Koffee with Karan incident. Someone else who was ignored for this spot was Ambati Rayudu who had almost cemented his place in the squad a couple of months back, but he had a dismal IPL.
India’s top order seems to be in perfect touch at the moment, but I only hope they won’t be experimenting with KL at #3 because captain Virat Kohli looks extremely uncomfortable at #4. Also, you always want your best batsman to be facing the most deliveries. I’m happy Rishab Pant didn’t make the squad as his flamboyance can never beat the experience and match finishing abilities of MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik.

All of the Indian batsmen did well at IPL 2019 and it will be tough for bowlers to get past Rohit Sharma (405 runs), Shikhar Dhawan (521 runs), Virat Kohli (464 runs) and KL Rahul (593 runs). It will be interesting to see if Kedar Jadhav makes his way into the playing eleven after a horrid season of 162 runs in 14 games. Interestingly, MSD also had a brilliant season with 416 runs.
The bowling is also fantastic with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami taking 19 wickets each, Yuzvendra Chahal taking 18 wickets and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagging 13 wickets. Bumrah bowled a magical 2/14 in the IPL finals and if often called the best limited overs bowler in the world at the moment. Bhuvi had a mediocre season but swinging conditions in England will make him a key weapon for Team India at the 2019 ICC World Cup. The only liability is Kuldeep Yadav who only managed 4 scalps in 9 games in the IPL.
