31-year old Khabib Nurmagomedov is a Russian MMA fighter who is often considered as one of the best fighters in the world, with 2 Combat Sambo World Champion titles and also currently being the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion. With a record of 28 wins and no losses, he holds the longest active loss-less streak in MMA history.
However, we’re not here to talk about his records but about the fact that Khabib recently lost his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov after complications from COVID-19. The illness has been causing havoc across the world and Russia has been no exception to this either, with new cases and deaths being registered each day.
Abdulmanap was not just father to Khabib but also a world-renowned MMA coach but the 57-year old breathed his last late last night. The 57-year old had been diagnosed with COVID a few months back and wasn’t recovering, because of complications from pneumonia which led to heart surgery, all in his hometown of Republic of Dagestan, Russia.

He went into medically induced coma in the last week of May and yesterday, he passed away which is a sad moment for everyone in the MMA industry. Not only Khabib, but his rivals have also marked this as a sad day in MMA history. “Sad news has reached me, friends, that Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has left this world,” said Chechen Republic leader Ramzan Kadyrovsaid, the first to reveal the news.
Khabib shared a special relationship with his father and even had him in his corner for his last fight. A few days back, he posted a photo to his Instagram account his father:
