It’s over a year away but we can already feel the excited and the anticipation brewing. Having witnessed plenty of legendary fights in the past, we’re set for what could be the king of them all. Las Vegas will play host to what is going to become the ‘heaviest boxing match in history’ as two former winners of the ‘World’s Strongest Man’ title get set to face off in the ring.
UK’s Eddie Hall won the title in 2017, standing tall at 6’2″ and weighing around 361 pounds. He became famous when he became the first man to do a 500kg deadlift while he was soon to meet someone else who could do better. Welcome Iceland’s Hafthor Bjornsson who won the strongest man title in 2019 and it was only over the weekend that he broke the deadlift record, lifting 501kg and inching ahead of Hall.
Bjornsson is much bigger in size, with a mammoth height of 6’9″ and said to be weighing around 425 pounds. Now, it’s set to be havoc in the ring as Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson have been confirmed to take part in a boxing match between themselves in Las Vegas in 2021, which is set to become one of the greatest sporting events in history.
Having played ‘The Mountain’ in popular TV show Game of Thrones, Bjornsson challenged Hall to a boxing match and the latter is not known to be one to back down, gleefully accepting the challenge. The fight is rightfully going to be one between The Beast and The Mountain. While the exact date and venue is yet to be decided, the fight has been confirmed!
Eddie Hall was quick to post about the news on his Instagram profile:
Hall had plenty more to say on a Facebook video after the fight was confirmed. He said, “1,000% I’m going to sign those papers. And you know why I’m going to sign those papers… it’s not the money, it’s not the dead lift feud we’ve got going on, nothing to do with that. It’s because you called me a cheat at World’s Strongest Man 2017.”
He explained their earlier enmity, saying, “I can’t put that to bed, I can’t forget it. People may forget it, but you’ve never apologised. You think you should’ve won that year, regardless of the trophies or not, and you let people know that. I don’t care if you’re 6ft 9in, I don’t care if you’re an actual giant. I don’t care. I’m gonna train the hardest, prepare the hardest… do everything in my power to step in that ring and rip your fucking head off. So Thor, get training, I’ll see you in the ring.”
Bookmakers have already begun accepting bets on the event which has about 16 months to go until it takes place and we expect this to be a very expensive night indeed. For all updates on the fight between The Beast and The Mountain, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
