It doesn’t have the longest history but ever since its inception way back in 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has grown and grown tremendously. And while most people relate T20 cricket to batsmen and batting records, it’s safe to say that some bowlers have really made a name for themselves in this tournament over the seasons too.
Top 5 Bowlers with most IPL maidens
So talking about bowlers, we’re going to explore a lesser known record in the IPL history and that’s of the most number of maidens bowled by a bowler. In this shorter format of the game, bowling one maiden is a massive achievement, so we’re celebrating those bowlers who have bowled multiple of them over the years, with all the stats in this article updated as of 9th March 2022 before the IPL 2022 season.
5) Lasith Malinga
There are very few bowling records in the IPL that don’t belong to Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga. The pace bowler has been a legend for Mumbai Indians over the years and even though it has been some time since his retirement, he still features on this list with as many as 8 maidens in a total of 122 IPL career games, during which time he bowled as many as 471.1 overs. He’s the only non-Indian on the list here!
4) Dhawal Kulkarni
Here’s a player who didn’t have the most celebrated IPL career and in fact is the only player on this list with less than 100 IPL matches. In his career of 92 IPL games, he bowled as many as 297.5 and from those, 8 maidens were delivered as well, making him a great powerplay bowler for his IPL franchise.

3) Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Someone with a very good international career and the bowler on this list to have the most number of IPL career matches to his name – 132 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowls with the new ball and in 491.3 overs bowled in this competition, he’s managed to have 9 maidens to his name as well. Unlike the other four players on this list, his IPL career is still active and is likely to climb higher on the most IPL maiden overs list.
2) Irfan Pathan
Another player who has been retired for a while now, the southpaw enjoyed bowling with the new ball and swung it both ways, which often meant opening batsmen found it difficult to play him. Irfan Pathan played only 103 IPL career games but he bowled 340.3 overs in that time and from them, 10 maidens were also delivered.
1) Praveen Kumar
Much like Irfan, Praveen Kumar could also swing the ball both ways and he’s miles ahead of everyone on this list. He played 119 IPL career matches and in the time, bowled 420.4 overs and as many as 14 maidens as well. With not a lot of active players on this list, we think PK could top the list for a while as he has been doing already. He tops the IPL maidens list even though he last played back in IPL 2017!
