The first edition of the Big Cricket League has been amazing to watch. The first time we’ve seen local cricketers paired with retired international cricketers, and it’s been a treat. And some of the players like Solomon Mire from Zimbabwe decided to save the best for last, smashing the fastest century of BCL 2024 in the second semi final of the inaugural edition.
Earlier in the day, Irfan Pathan’s Mumbai Marines qualified from Semi Final 1 and later, it was Northern Challengers vs Southern Spartan in Semi Final 2 of BCL 2024. Chasing 219 to win in 20 overs, it wasn’t going to be easy but Mire smashed sixes for fun, breaking the record for the fastest Big Cricket League century by a long, long, way.
BCL 2024 – Solomon Mire 36-ball century
His innings including only 4 fours but as many as 14 sixes at a strike rate of nearly 300! Outstanding hitting by the former Zimbabwean opener, who started slow but then caught up after he lost his opening partner Phil Mustard. He was batting on 97 in 35 balls when he smashed a six over square leg to bring up his BCL century in a record 36 balls!
We’ve seen quite a few centuries in the Big Cricket League including hundreds from the likes of Samiullah Shinwari, Phill Mustard, Jesal Karia, and many others. Prior to this, the fastest century in the tournament was in 43 balls and he beat this record by as many as 7 balls. We don’t see this record being broken anytime soon in the Big Cricket League.

he smashed two consecutive sixes and was dismissed on the second ball after that, finishing his innings with 110(38). At the end of that over, the Southern Spartans were at 177/2 in only 12 overs, making an absolute mockery of the chase at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat, where all the matches in this tournament have taken place.
The 35-year old right hand opening batsman had a brief career for Zimbabwe including 2 Tests, 47 ODIs, and 9 T20Is. He scored 5 fifties and a century across formats, with his best score of 112 coming in the 50-over format. However, seeing his form here, we wonder why he chose to retire so quickly from the highest stage!
Spartans finished the chase in the 17th over itself, completing a 6-wicket win. With that, they will face off against Marines in the BCL 2024 final which takes place on 22nd Dec 2024. We hope to see yet another exciting match in the final and for similar cricketing updates from around the world, remember to always stay tuned to ReadScoops.com.
