There are very few international cricketers who we think have always given 150% each time they walked on to the cricket field. Some of them may include India’s Virat Kohli or Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, but you surely won’t be able to leave out England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes, who has been a part of both the T20 and ODI World Cup winning squads for his side.
While most of his records over an illustrious career have come with the bat, we’re going to dive into some of his bowling records on this page. He has had injury issues over the years but his short spells have always been fiery and tough to contend with. The first time Stokes picked up a Test 5-wicket haul, he was a kid in his early twenties, making his marking on the international stage. And he picked up one of the toughest series to do so, against Australia during the 2013-14 Ashes. He picked up 6/99 in that game and then bested it in the 2015 Ashes, picking up another career best figures of 6/36. He then got his third Ashes 5-fer in the 1st Test down under in Ashes 2025-26.
Additionally, he’s picked up two more Test 5-wicket hauls against India, one coming in 2016 and then another in 2025. The only other opposition he’s got a Test 5-fer against is West Indies, doing so with a new career best of 6/22 in 2017. Stokes doesn’t always bowl long spells because of fitness issues but he decided to call it quits at an early age in limited overs cricket, allowing himself to get fit for the 5-day game. And the first time he took over the reins as captain during a home series against India, he picked up his 5th career Test 5-fer, to go with one 5-fer in his ODI career as well.

The 5th Test 5-wicket haul was a very special one, because he broke multiple records. He managed to get past 50 Test wickets at home and more importantly, became only the fourth all-rounder in Test history to get 10+ centuries and 5+ 5-fers after Sir Garfield Sobers, Jacques Kallis, and Sir Ian Botham. The sixth one too, came on the first day of the 2025-26 Ashes series down under, standing up again when most needed:
