In this gentleman’s game of cricket, the last thing you want to see if cheating or unfair methods of winning in the game. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), there has always been extra scrutiny when it comes to cheating and it’s sad to see videos of yesterday’s CSK vs MI game where the home team seems to be involved in some kind of ball tampering.
Now the issue hasn’t been addressed, so we wouldn’t want to accuse anyone before understanding what went down. However, the video of CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad along with bowler Khaleel Ahmed doesn’t look too good, where the duo is seen using something on the ball and then placing the same back in their pockets.

The incident in question happened right at the start of the game where Mumbai Indians was batting first, and Khaleel was handed over the new ball. The video seems to see Khaleel taking off his rung and accepting something from his captain Gaikwad, and then after an interaction with the ball, he passes the substance back to Gaikwad.

Further, Gaikwad puts the thing back into his pocket and walks off, which looked very suspicious all throughout. While it does look bad on the two players, no questions have been raised by the match referees or other officials, and we also have a question on why someone would want to tamper with a new ball straight out of the box. As this happened in the first over itself.

It’s impossible to miss such things when it’s a packed stadium with hundreds and thousands of cameras across the ground. There was an immediate uproar on social media, with fans likening the incident to the two year suspension Chennai got a few years ago in this tournament, for an involvement in a betting scandal.

Khaleel went on to pick up early wickets and ended with figures of 3/29 in his four overs, so whatever he did with the ball seems to have worked for his side.
