We witnessed a special innings with the bat today in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, that too in an all-important playoff game. We’re talking about Qualifier 2 in the TNPL 2025 season where the table toppers Chepauk Super Gillies were taking on Dindigul Dragons for a spot in the final against the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans.
Batting second, Ravi Ashwin’s Dindigul franchise lost many early wickets and despite an entertaining start, they had soon become the underdogs in the chase. They were 127-4 after 16 overs and with 52 needed in the last 4 overs, everything was stacked against them until their middle order batter Vimal Khumar started to show of his talent.

Vimal Khumar 34-run over in TNPL 2025
Chepauk’s Rohit Suthar came in to bowl the 17th over of the chase and he would’ve been quite confident, considering his first over went for only 4 runs. However, he didn’t know there was a carnage to follow. He was hit for four off the first ball of the over itself, and not many would’ve expected that that boundary ball would be the cheapest ball of the over.

4, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6 is what the 17th over looked like when Khumar was done with his barrage of sixes. He’s shown some batting prowess right through the TNPL 2025 season but it’s not many times that you’ll get to smash a bowler for 5 sixes in an over. The 21-year old bowler Suthar didn’t know where to look as he disappeared all across the stadium.

After that 34-run over, there was only 18 runs needed off the final 3 overs, and they ended up completing the chase with 8 balls to spare. Khumar was eventually bowled out for 65(30) in an innings which included 5 fours and 5 sixes. Chepauk captain Baba Aparajith used Suthar as the 7th bowler, and in hindsight, he would’ve regretted that choice now.

After putting in all the hard work and going unbeaten in the TNPL 2025 round robin stage, CSG would be really upset as they lost both Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2, missing out a well deserved chance to compete in the TNPL 2025 final. However, it’s going to be interesting to see which of Dindigul and Tiruppur end up becoming the competition champions for this year!
